Anything you read about these will always praise them to the sky and then say "the only thing is, the gearbox is a bit st".
Harrismonkey has one and agreed with that and - apparently - spent rather a lot of money having it made less st.
What sort of money? Quite a lot BUT the beauty is, now it's been done it can be done again so - there's a fix for that!
I think you have the wrong car? Monkey had a CLK Black. Harrismonkey has one and agreed with that and - apparently - spent rather a lot of money having it made less st.

The C63 Black is a fantastic drivers' car, and you'd never guess it is that heavy. The damping is sublime and puts to shame the pogo efforts of many modern "sports" cars, the steering, light but accurate and with feel, deep set buckets, that apparently make an average height driver look a midget, and noise on upshifts, downshifts and no shifts, are all superb. As are the cartoon looks with the "club sport" pack. The handling, on warm Dunlops, is beautifully progressive and the car feels like it slides in slow motion. But on cold tyres will wheel spin even getting it out of the garage.
It's one of my favourite cars for a bit of fun, The only criticism I'd have is, that like a lot of AMG products, they never feel that quick. Maybe it's the linear power delivery, or the "lazy" feel of the engine. But that's all forgotten with the noise on up shifts, and the progressive sliding.
I may be incorrect but wasn’t there the option to have the rear seats reinstated, and the aero pack (raised rear spoiler, front bumper winglets) added?
No mention of the composite brakes or the LSD that locked under acceleration and deceleration?
Sorry, but not that informative an article for me...

I think they came with buckets as standard and an option to spec "comfort seats" and rear seats. There was also an aerodynamic pack (rear spoiler, front spoiler and canards in carbon), and a track pack (Dunlop tyres and additional cooling at the rear). Never seen one with ceramics. Mine is white with black alloys.Bucket or comfort seats was a no cost option, buckets deleted rear seats.
Aero package was £7k which aided downforce, track package £5k, the sticky Dunlop tyres inclusive with the track package resulted in a improved 0-60time.
They came with composite brakes, ceramics were not a option.
I have the full spec/ options lists etc if anyone has any questions they would like answered.

I have red with the same spec. aero, track, and buckets (with rear delete).
Would have loved a yellow one.
Re the box in the CLK Black. It is an old school automatic, it's not a single clutch or dual clutch box, it's an auto. If you decide to use the paddles, it is slow to change, but it is not slow up and down the box in normal use, in fact the box is very fast to change, changes at the right points and probably the best judged sporting automatic I've driven on the road. If you want it to change with paddles like a modern car you can get it upgraded but it does not need it in my opinion. I've never worked out why it takes so long to change with the manual paddles but it must be a software issue rather than hardware as the box is fast in normal use.
The CLK Black is not a track car, it weighs 1,850kg.. Let that sink in for a minute. It's old school build, old school box. Think of it like a more sophisticated US muscle car as that is what it is more like than anything else. I drove mine once on the track and realised that the track is not it's place, although plenty of people do track them, it's not for me, I prefer something less than half that weight!
The C is very different to the CLK. The C is over 200 kg lighter, has a completely different feel, and is much better on the track. The CLK is more of the hooligan car and old school Mercedes. Both are brilliant.

Actually it isn't a torque converter auto, it's the 7-speed auto with the torque converter removed and the AMG wet-clutch setup installed. This means they get quicker, more aggressive locking etc. A clever, under-appreciated bit of kit.giggity said:
Love the W204 M156 C63. I cant wait to get a late coupe (non-BS). Just waiting for the prices to drop a little further.
In the meantime I’ll have to make do with my M113K 5.4 which is a beast anyhow.
I wonder how the two will compare when it comes to it!
There is a massive fan club for both the M156 and the M113K
If we’re talking W211 E55K vs W204 C63 then they only really compare in straight line speed. The M113K has sledgehammer torque that comes out of nowhere which accelerates the barge into warp speed like the Starship Enterprise. But, it’s nowhere near as free revving or as snappy as the M156, which hits redline in the blink of an eye and begs to get there again with every gear change. In the meantime I’ll have to make do with my M113K 5.4 which is a beast anyhow.

I find the M113K a much easier car to cruise in, it feels effortless all of the time. The M156 is snappy and more care needs to be given to accelerator input. The E55 I don’t find struggles for grip so much as the W204 either, which needs experience when you’re “on it”. In my opinion, far too much emphasis from the buying public of used C63’s is put on the Performance Pack (same lighter internals as BS and 30hp more than “normal” C63’s due to ECU - no C63 is normal), when I reality these make little difference (its more in the extra 30hp) and one C63 app or non-PP should be sought with an LSD over any other option. The AMG diff is good but I have found cars with retrofitted Quaife units to feel a lot more predictable and easier to live with, so don’t be put off.

Strange these haven't gone the same way with price as everything else that was produced in limited numbers in the last few years, what a car though, would have one in a heart beat
Ahhh, so I think this is because all the other non-AMG Mercedes bits in the car are utter rubbish. I had a C63 for 4 months, ( I wrote a short review here: http://www.speedmonkey.co.uk/2013/10/living-with-2... ) and while the AMG engine was utterly outstanding, the normal bits that you use everyday, were utterly utterly rubbish.I drove a Black Series too and the handling was night and day to my C63, however, I think the sub-par build and interior quality have hurt values, (compared to Porsches etc). But, quite rightly it's still a converted car. It goes to show that in spite of the Mercedes bits, the engine and handling shine through.
