A decent buy in 3 years time when lightly used cars that have been up and down the motorway a few times will be £45K.
Problem is cars like this are sooo complicated now that what you save in depreciation you can end up paying back in lumps on maintenance. Not 50ks worth perhaps but I can imagine it being very easy to drop 20K in repair bills once these are a few years old.

That, believe it or not, is actually the appeal to many.

And exactly what BMW intended it to be
Indeed, this is why I've always like BMW M cars. They blend in like smart jeans and an open neck shirt instead of the dayglo shell suits that Ford, Subaru, etc. tend to offer.

The Audi maybe on its way out, but there's no question which one I'd rather have left the show in. And considering that everyone else pretty much walked right past the Beemer to drool over the Audi, meant I wasn't the only one either (just a pity there wasn't an E63S there!) wink
Guy on my roads got a three year old one in a dark colour, I'm the only person that noticed it was an m5 in all the times he's owned. The most innocuous performance car ever....

My Singapore grey one was never ever noticed which was part of the appeal. I imagine the orange or blue would get a lot more attention.

Maybe off topic but why are heated seats / steering wheel a 1.1k option a 85k car when even an astra has them fitted as part of the standard kit?

Because the article is wrong. You can pay an additional £325 for front AND rear seat heating (front is standard IIRC) and a heated steering wheel is under £200. God knows where £1100 came from.

You don't get 600bhp standard in an Astra, though.

Fair point on the price in that case, and as for 600hp in an Astra i guess it depends on how many stickers you apply lol.

But you could. For a whole lot less than 100k. And you'll still have heated seats....................... wink

Have always loved the M5. My fave was the E34 3.8 and then the E60. Not so fussed with the last one TBH. I think BMW have really made sure this one is top if the class. But arent they too big now? The old E34, that was still usable on back roads.

And Apple CarPlay without paying £200 for it... Why does it seem that sometimes the more "exotic" the car the less you get without ticking the options? I get that the M5 and Astra are miles apart in terms of target market / driving experience but charging for something as "basic" as smart phone integration in this day and age seems a bit cheeky.

Not really... not everyone will want all the fireworks and theatre. Some will happy flying under the radar. Maybe it could be a no cost option though... wink

It would be interesting to stick it on a dyno. I reckon it is making way more than 600bhp to lay down those sort of numbers. At least 700bhp I would have at a guess.

Stealth looks a major plus for me (after having a C7 RS6 for the last 3 years).

A 320d is 60k!

Also,, the M5 wont be discounted until second year of production, first year buyers tend not to mind paying over the list for such like.

Bit like smart jeans and an open neck shirt 4 comments above....lol

Ah but how do you let the world know you’ve “pulled the trigger on a 100k motor” if it doesn’t have flared arches ? wink

The options list seems quite reasonable to me! The big cost is the ceramic brakes and the carbon engine cover seems slightly pointless, but asides from that, it's not a long options list at all (compared to say, Porsche or Ferrari). £1k for a sports exhaust is a bargain compared to aftermarket options.
