Bonkers money for something built on the M111-derived platform.
For that sort of money you can nearly be off up the road in a 530 bhp British twin-turbo V8 with a carbon tub (McLaren 540) that's 20 years newer, just as quick and a whole lot less cramped.
This.

Time Lotus brought out a genuinely new car.

Looks great and I'm sure it's amazing to drive.
I find it about 30k overpriced though

I hope you don't think the Mc has a better chassis simply because it is newer?

And your negotiation skills must be quite something old chap if you can knock over £40k off the price:

http://cars.mclaren.com/finance-offer-540c-uk

And we all know how the Woking boys take the "think of a number and triple it" approach to (must have) option prices...

As for driving, I expect the Exige to be the more fun proposition.

^^^^^This. I don’t disagree it’s a lot of money. But all these cars are. As said you need another £40k ie nearly 50% to get into a Mc. So it probably sits about right price wise. Seriously what is a direct competitor for these Exiges?

Think only real competition is a Cayman GT4 but it is dull in comparison. So no idea what a genuine rival to the Lotus is to be honest.

So as a road proposition, does it still sit op Cup 2's or does it rock PS4's/PS4S tyres?

It does not have a rival.

I have been waiting for this car for 10 years lol or a car Lotus make I want.

This is a car I want and expected Lotus to make, so I am going to buy it :-)

no nayslaying Lotus from me on this model, you can all sit down.

Great stuff! What spec are you thinking? Personally I think just the A frame and that's about it. Sub £90k and you have a proper do-it-all trackday car. Bargain.

A frame, Carbon roof and sills(easier to get in) with AC in Sig Orange and a discount :-)

It's a niche car. Even if they cut the price, the market for it is always going to be small. There's no direct competition. If you want something like this, that's what it costs. I suspect that they have worked out that they would sell barely any more of them if they cut their margin.

To an enthusiastic driver, what use is standing on your drive saying "I can nearly be off up the road in [X]"?

Why do they need a new Elise or Exige platform. Do you mean bigger with easier entry? If so wouldn't that be the Evora?

Sounds like it wink. It's a premium product and has no rivals in the market. A far more enticing proposition than a 911R or GTR etc for the keen driver.
