I have to wonder, at this rate of progress, where will McLaren be in another 10 years?
Who knows, perhaps able to produce road cars like this AND a half decent F1 race car!?

That is one excellent looking car - the problem (nice one to have) is would you buy a fully specced up 570S when you can have this beauty (albeit without all the extra trimmings) for the same money?

Nice one Mclaren smile

Speaking as a car nut and fan boy (and Brit), rather than a potential owner or current/pastl owner, I've followed McLaren's progress with interest since 2011. Its great to see a Brit manufacturer achieve so much in a short space of time, A few things they need to do better IMO.

1. Residuals. On Autotrader at the moment, you can find a 2012 MP4-12C for £79,995 and four more at £89,999 or less. The £89,999 one has done only 6900 miles! The cheapest 458 Italia in RHD by comparison, is £130,000. Ouch....I wouldn't want to be the owner of a McLaren bought new and trying to offload it at 5-6 years old....
2. Better engine acoustics. The likes of Porsche, Ferrari, AMG and Lambo have McLaren beat on the emotional aspects of sound, It would seem.
3. Styling. Subjective this one, but they need to evolve a bit from the 650S design. I know my cars, but struggle to differentiate between a 540S and 570S
4. For carbon fibre cars, they're not all that light really. Better than the competition but a 540C weighed by EVO was only 50KG lighter than the all steel 4WD 911 Carrera GTS - maybe get Gordon Murray back on board with some weight watcher tips!!

Talking of the 540C it looks like you don't need more than that from the current range. EVO clocked 0-150MPH in 14 seconds dead which is obscenely fast for a base model. I wonder if in fact it has less horses than the 570S...

Other than that, another great car and look forward to what they can achieve in a few years.

Ah, I thought that would come up soon enough! Car I drove was definitely white, but car looks more interesting (and skiddy!) in orange. Nothing more to it than that...

the car fully spec'd is £190k imo, just needs the seats

everything else is a compete gimmick and waste of money

Black or some other dark colour + security pack + lightweight seats would be the spec for me. I don’t think there’s any point speccing this up to 250k where it competes with a 675lt and the performante but a sub 200k spec and I think it could be the best car around for the money.
Like the one they had at Goodwood, an utterly glorious thing.

Sensible comments, although to be fair, I have a 570s and can't tell it apart from the 540c (they are almost exactly the same btw.....).

For all the stats(not including the depreciation ones), it just doesn’t seem that exciting,.
Apart from the driving experience - which according to the article, was incredibly exciting.

Did we read the same article?

Meanwhile another pic of a ‘not that exciting‘ McLaren underwhelming its driver ... wink

Wow. That made me sit up and take notice.

I'd never have guessed the difference was only 50kg.

I simply don't understand the smoke and mirrors of weight savings that can only be achieved by speccing the car in a way that makes it undriveable a lot of the time - why not only three wheels or no glass? Without AC this is surely going to be hotter than hell on the type of days you might want to take it for a road or track drive or in Europe/USA/Asia where it actually is 35+ degrees through a lot of the summer.

It looks epic but the weight saving efforts are hardly that dramatic if you need de-contenting and optional seats to achieve them.

This car looks best in black or a dark colour to hide the ugly front light area.

A wing gives it what it has always needed at the rear. 570 is ugly at the rear.

Still, it is much better looking than any Porsche. Am surprised why the 911 hasn't been canned alongside the beetle. Alot of men must have manure in their eyes.

All reviews pointing to an epic car. Well done McLaren.

It gives buyer the choice. That's why they're options.

There will be people who buy the spider version, spend extra money to get the lightweight version of the Sports Series, then spend extra again to lug about a heavy folding roof option... it shows such options are largely marketing and the real gains are from the extra power and re-tuned suspension and tyres.

So £185,500 gets you a 600LT with air con and sat nav if you want it.

Surely there's no need to pay another 50 grand on top?
i believe that sir wants to resell the car at some point. You don't spec for yourself but for the next owner wink
I specced up a Audi RS4 Avant on the configurator (just playing around unfortunately) and only managed to put on about £5K's worth of options.

If I did similar in a McL dealers I suspect the salesman would stab me to death with his MSO carbon fibre pen.

I think you've quoted the Kerb weight of the 540C against the dry weight of the 911. The 540C dry weight is 1311kg. So 159kg dif. with DCT.
