If only they had switchable ESP on cars like these back in the day.
WTF!!!!!
It would've saved a fair few from destruction.
So would 50bhp and a 3 speed auto.
Have you driven a 306 Rallye over and above the limit? Autocar said they were trickier than an old school 911 and I wouldn't disagree

Always regret not jumping on a white rallye that was offered to me a few years ago and have been looking for one since.
Think this may well be the one I was interested in earlier this year that went through Anglia Car Auctions. Mileage, owners, length of time owned all correspond.

Absolutely love my GTI-6. Always keeping an eye out for a cheap usable Rallye, but prices are definitely on the up!

I think the S1 (which I also had) was maybe preferable? Had much more benign breakaway characteristics than the 306.

I remember when CAR magazine did ther big Annual Handling Day Tests at places like Thruxton the 106Gti set a much faster time than the 306GTi-6 as it inspired more confidence ( that it wasn't oing to "let go" at the back ) in a few of the faster corners. Certainly a 106Gti/Saxo VTS will run them close on some tracks depending on the layout just on pure lap times.

I did a Peugeot Driving Day back in about 97/98 at Weston Park ( scen of a few RAC rally special stages ) where they let you drive all their sporty models ( 106Gti, 306 Gti-6, 406 V6 Coupe etc ) and a couple of people managed to spin 306 GTi-6 on the tight cambered single track roads within Weston Park before they got on the road section! To me they didn't feel too much worse than a 205 1.9 or Astra GTE 16v at the rear but they did feel "loose" even when brand new!

The 306 GTi has passive rear wheel steer in the form of soft bushing on the rear suspension, Skip Brown would replace them with solid bushes as part of their suspension kit (which also included front springs and set of dampers) for the GTi6/Rallye and they said made the handling more predictable.

So why would you want to water it down? Isn't that what the XSi is for?

The 306, the last good car Peugeot built. I had a XLdt as my first car, had it 6 months and I PX'ed it for a Civic. I regret that decision even now.

If it weren't for the fact I've a Corolla as a project, a Lada coming in March, and a wife who won't let me have more than 3 cars on the driveway, I'd be buying a 306 and making a Rallye tribute.

mmmh, i am not so sure...having been fully sideways in a Mk3 Renautsport Megane going through Raidillon at a very wet Spa track day last month, ESP was the difference between just having brown trousers and having brown trousers and no car.

The 406 was a good car if I'm being pedantic.

Hmm. You're right actually, the 306 and 406 were the last good cars Peugeot built.

I had one of these until my son backed it into a tree at 50 MPH. Absolutely stonker of a car. Should have left him chained to the tree. Got followed many a time with the fuzz and they always had a smile
