I think it's just great that the American volume brands put out cars with 700+ bhp.

Could you imagine Peugeot or VW doing this?
Well quite. The Americans have done a bloody good job of sports cars in the last few years. We’ve got this, the Hellcat, and the Corvette and Camaro ZR1 all running 10s down the strip, but also capable on the track with proper suspensions and handling.

I’ll have my GT500 in blue please, with a black stripe.

The VW TFSi engine featured a supercharger and turbo, and came with a DSG gearbox - a la Fabia Vrs and Polo GTI.

I was under the impression there's loads of 700hp+ fords out there and it's not even a heavy tune for these engines

Oh there are, but they didn't leave the factory that way.

But this one has a warranty, hot weather testing, NVH testing etc.

However, surely the highest horsepower from a factory-warrantied Ford V8 would be the 4.6l, 16v unit fitted to the MG ZT (following a pricey excursion down the MG Xpower options list)

Ford UK will currently sell you a Supercharger kit for your S550 Mustang GT, which has a claimed 670hp.

'Warranty covered by Ford'

Not from factory, but pretty remarkable you can do that and have some kind of warranty.

And states not for use on public roads - so where would you drive it?

The Koenigsegg CCR used the same 4.6L 4v engine but with twin superchargers and 806hp which I think was the most powerful version of that engine put in to production.

The MG XPower was meant to come with all sorts but I think the most powerful official version of the 4.6L was the SV with 320hp and there was a 5.0L SVR with 385hp.

Road & Track is reporting that both the Shelby Mustang GT500 and the Mid-Engined Corvette will be using the Tremec TR-9007.

That's just Ford covering their arse as technically it hasn't been through an official approval process for use on public roads. They also offer a range of three power packs for which they say the same thing. Plenty of people have had these installed and drive theirs cars around normally.

Remember they are USA centred- some states do not allow modifications of this sort for road use. Not a problem in the UK. though.

I wonder how much the carbon track pack will cost. 25k for the wheels alone if the Megane Trophy-R is anything to go by. Maybe Ford aren't beholden to muh R&D and muh tooling costs to the same extent.

Wheels look the same as the optional carbons on the GT350R, how much do they cost there?

Have driven the last GT500 (and ended up facing the wrong way on the Vegas strip exiting carpark), have massive want for this (as does my 5yr old).

Not fussed about carbon wheels, but crikey it looks awesome.

With this and the new corvette the US really are dominating the accessible sports/supercar market.

The only reason a real petrolhead would choose anything else would be vanity and undeserved prejudice.

if memory serves its approx The cost of a base ecoboost mustang for the track pack with the adjustable wing and carbon wheels.
