£48,000 - you are having a laugh. I am sure the authors of these articles write them in a controversial way, just to get comments.
Let it stay in Germany.
That list price with loads of options, they will move precisely none if that's the only deal, most will be PCP'd or leased for £300 a month or so.Let it stay in Germany.
I wonder how many options are really needed and how many aren't?
I say that as I can imagine if you want the car to look good i.e. the bodykit and then have the tech on offer you will need to speak close to £45k for a pretend AMG.
Those waiting for the A45 are going to be met with some eye watering prices. I would bet that a fairly well specced A45 will come in more expensive than a similarly specced M4 Comp Pack and on a PCP deal probably a whole lot more expensive. It's going to take some brave deep pockets!
MB seem to have become the BMW of the 90's where all the key options are priced very high.

The M140i has the B58 engine and RWD. It is the two things that always get mentioned, a straight six and rwd,
Who writes this unrelenting, unfounded p1sh?!?
Completely agree, that's the whole attraction of the M140i.. the engine that is more potent than the N55 in the M2. Who writes this unrelenting, unfounded p1sh?!?
Frankly I haven't read a decent article on here by Matt Bird, his last article on the M140i was quoting you could buy one for £14k and remap it to 440bhp. I think he assumed an early M135i had the same B58 engine and hence the same output from a remap. No excuse for poor product knowledge.
Unfortunately articles on PH seem to be of a wildly variable standard and are often little more than some of the samey forum replies:
There's no manual (nobody buys manuals)
It's not 20k new (it's not 1992 any more)
Too many electric nannies (Being dead sucks)
Motoring journalists seem to be a bit out of touch with what people want to buy/use/own these days...

Yep, these do absolutely nothing for me. At that price point, if I wanted a 4 x 4 hatch, I think I'd be waiting for the Mk8 Golf R, which gets a small power hike and seems to me a more rounded 365 days a year car. For a fun car, the RWD M140i is certainly very appealing. I don't know why, but since the M135i was launched I've really fancied one and I'm not a BMW person by any stretch of the imagination. I think the fact that all the journos say its rough around the edges makes it even more appealing with that engine. Modern day Sunbeam Lotus? Sort of?

Modern day Sunbeam Lotus? Definitely not. As a former M135i owner the good points were a sublime engine, good brakes & decent gearbox. The chassis was a mess, damper control was piss poor. Steering feel was absolutely woeful. Hit a bumpy road and try and cover ground quickly in a standard M135i and you will know about it. Also lacked a LSD. Chuck some decent supension on it and a LSD and it was a far better proposition. PH ran one and did all the upgrades to it. Someone with more time and patience than myself might pop up a link to the articles.Dale487 said:

I really do like that Interior.
I just can't see past the love child of a massive iPad & a Rover SD1 in the dial area (I assume this design makes putting bigger/better iPads in on the facelift version very easy). Edited by Dale487 on Tuesday 22 January 10:18

This looks like a good article on an interesting car I thought.
I got as far as where the article mentioned £48k and stopped at that point. Seriously? For not even the hot AMG A45 version. Not for me thanks.
Theres £13K of options on that car, so clearly put together by Mercedes to showcase the tech rather than be a typical build.I got as far as where the article mentioned £48k and stopped at that point. Seriously? For not even the hot AMG A45 version. Not for me thanks.
Drivethedeal are already offering the standard car for £32,713.
Not that this is in my price bracket or type of drive I would be after, but 48k seems crazy. 33k sounds more reasonable given the price.

I have to say this is badge dilution gone to far this should have been a sport model at 35k it's on the money in terms of it's rivals (obviously at 48k that's a step to far but you can spec a Golf to similar levels so that's down to individuals needs) also it was never going to be great as that's the A45's (which was even more reason not to put an AMG badge near it) job. Judging the cars character on winter tyres is a bit tough imo.
