"sudden engine braking jolt which helps settle the car". Say what now? There was me thinking that people have been heeling and toeing for decades to avoid exactly that.

If Toyota hadn't teased us with the FT-1 concept for so long I'd not feel so let down with this car, but they did. To me it's under powered and the proportions look all wrong, it looks like BMW dictated the platforms dimensions to suit their Z4, rather than Toyotas claim that they dictated it. I say that it doesn't deserve the Supra name, it should of been a GT-R rival rather than a Z4 in drag. If they wanted an nostalgic name for it maybe "Celica" would of been more appropriate.

Agreed. The FT-1 was one of the best looking cars I've ever seen.

I like it and will also take mine in yellow please! Look forward to seeing what some of the aftermarket people come up with for it, new set of wider wheels, spoiler, few carbon bits and maybe the FT-1 concept style front bumper yes please.

Genuinely curious to see who would want one. That engine isn’t so special, the looks aren’t that special and it’s expensive for what it is. If you want a performance car, you’d get an M2 Comp, Cayman or Boxster, if you want that engine with a soft top you’d get a Z4, or that engine in a hatchback an M140i for literally half the price.

Have to agree with all of that. The side profile is really unflattering and makes it look almost cartoonish in proportions. Whilst the interior is nice, it's just pure BMW and makes the Supra look like it was cobbled together from parts. Even Aston Martin went to some lengths to hide the Mercedesness of the infotainment system.

I've come to really like the styling after watching all the video review videos on youtube, and especially after seeing the car in that yellow and the dark blue too. It looks fantastic I think.

Totally ok with the BMW interior electrics because let's face it they are superior to any Toyota infotainment right now. The dash and interior design would still be Toyota work though.

The most impressive thing for me has been hearing Tada-san talk about the reliability and durability testing they did on the B58 motor to make it meet Toyota standards. It's reliability that will ultimately turn this car into a cult hero with lasting appeal like it's predecessor and other Japanese hero's.

quite like it tbh, but it doesnt come across as special enough. the problem is when anyone says supra to us all we think 5-600 bhp mk4s



those pointing out its a bit on the heavy side its actually 50 kilos lighter than a mk4 turbo personally i'd be surprised if they dont offer a manual at some point in the near future and the option of a power bump either directly or via Gazoo

Why are new cars so ugly these days? I was really looking forward to the new the Supra, sadly it looks bloody awful.

How is it so heavy? Weighing similar to the M2 which is a 4 seater on a shared platform yet this ‘sports car’ weighs in the same.

Manual and 200-300kg lighter I’d give it a close look but M2 or Alpine make so much more sense in this class.

I'd say it's all of the safety things the cars have to have. Sure, if it weren't for the emissions it could weigh 100kg less, but what about the rest of the fluff? I bet those seats could be lighter if they wanted it, polycarbonate windows maybe?

When it comes down in price to the hands of the tuner market you'll see massive weight reductions, because from the look of it there is plenty of fat to cut off it.

This surprised me as well. All other reviews have praised its handling - and one said the brakes were very good.

I suppose the ZF8 might be quite a lot heavier than the 7-speed DCT in the M2 but there has always been curiously little difference in weight between the 1-series, 2-series, 3-series, 4-series and Z4. I guess the Z4 might have more weight in the sills, if the expectations of chassis rigidity in open-top versions are higher than with the more maintream cars.

There must be good margin in it, as Toyota haven't had to spend very much on the engine and gearbox development, or infotainment/electrical.

Appreciate it's low volume and therefore the chassis and development cost is amortised over fewer units, however more than double the price of an M140 for what is that same power unit seems a bit steep (though I appreciate a broadly similar argument could be had against the M2, in its original form, at least).
