Earlier this year I chopped in my M440i after 2 years of very happy ownership. Plenty of performance, goon infotainment and I thought very stylish. My only complaint is that it didn't do to well on depreciation compared to similar Audi's I've had in the past but overall and in particular when you put it into sport + or as I like to call it turbo nutter mode it went like a stabbed rat. I'm sure the next version will be just as good if not better.
M440i?
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking him? Are you asking is he sure of the model he had? Or are you not sure an M440i exists? It does exist smile
There is a 440i, which can be optioned with an M Sport package, but no M440i (sub M brand) confused

Yeah, it's not like it's a direct replacement for the F32 4 Series Coupé...
... which was a direct replacement for the E92 3 Series Coupé...
... which was a direct replacement for the E46 3 Series Coupé...
... which was a direct replacement for the E36 3 Series Coupé...

This looks really nice. It could be the best looking car BMW make, and possibly the nicest looking 3 series coupe since the E46...

The existing 4 Series 440i is actually designated as the 440i MSport (I had one before my M4) - no idea why you would bother pulling someone up on that versus 'M440i' though, I certainly understood what he meant.....Strange place this is sometimes!
Because it isn't an M440i! It's not designated as such, and is in no way an M car!

Still a cracking car - looking at getting one myself. But M car it ain't!

ETA: having had both, presumably you'd agree?

Is the M140i or the M240i or the M340i a true M car? We all knew what he meant.

Currently have a 440i GC, I'll be interested to see how this turns out.

I have the MPPSK so only 10bhp down on the new model and the same amount of torque, but obviously no 4WD ... Will be interesting to see what the performance difference is like seeing as they're marketing the new one as an M-lite.

Recently got ourselves a dog, so it might end up being an M340i touring.

Nice to see someone else who correctly identifies the coupé / two door saloon within the linage!

This’ll be my next car, I loved my 430d, I’ll have the newer 430d with the m sport diff when they’re a year old and lost the biggest chunk.
I have one now, purchased pre-registered with delivery mileage and a nice 35% discount off list.

I’m excited by this.

I’ve been looking around for something to replace my 4 with for a while but I can’t find anything that is such a good all rounder that justifies spending more money on considering miles I do and what I use it for.

Agree with someone earlier that the 4 is the nicest looking BMW at the moment, mines in my profile, and I know I’m biased but I can’t think of anything better value.

Roll on 2020 and fingers crossed the 440i tempts me.

Yep same here, I genuinely couldn’t find anything to replace mine with on the same level. Ended up trying to go higher by looking at M4’s and C63’s but decided to get the new Civic Type R, sold mine and paid the rest outright. Debt free and having a lot of fun, more fun than I would have.

However, depending on the new 4, I think I’ll find myself behind the wheel of one again, in a few years though

What an absolute bore you are - do you really think anyone other than ttty nerds like you give a fk? I've had lots of M Cars over the years, and yes, that last 440i (MSport Cabrio!!!!) was worthy,

Get a life.

I never fail to be surprised at PH.

Normally the pedants are the ones who proclaim an M Sport is not an M car (they really aren’t the same) and follows page after page of discussion.

Now it seems PH shoots people down in flames for making the exact same point, which pedant or not, is actually spot on.

I don't think anyone is claiming an M440i/440i M Performance is an "M" car, they're saying it's the halfway house, akin to the M140i.

Will be interesting to see where they go with this; I’m not that fussed by the current 4 series. I actually preferred the 3 series.

The new 8 is quite a handsome beast in the flesh; didn’t really like it in the pictures but it doesn’t look as big out and about. If it follows the design of the 8 it should be a looker.

So shoot me for putting the M at the wrong side of the 440. As above went exceedingly well but was rather fond of a drink. Much like me come to think of it. Apart from the going exceedingly well part. I think you may also notice that had I been claiming to have had an actual M car there would have been one less 4 and no 0. Jeez.....
