"That’s why I’m getting an entry-level model"

Excellent decision. The best value for money is generally at the bottom of the range. Priced aggressively to catch the headlines and you still get the car!

Articles such as this always reenforce how crazy options prices are.All the the £190 telemetrics system does is take the OBDII data and display it on the screen. It's the Ryanair pricing model.
Better to look at it from the point of view that it costs money to develop a car in its entirety. Including software. Those who want the bells & whistles pay for this development, while those that don’t, pay a little less. Keeps the list price more affordable to more buyers. It’s quite difficult to make substantial profit per unit in the auto industry, particularly low volume stuff. Every single nut, bolt and washer is accounted for.

When you specify an option, you’re paying for its entire ground-up inclusion in the costs of designing, tooling and manufacturing the car, not just a list of parts in a line-side stillage. Additionally, it costs the manufacturer a great deal of money in logistics, supply chain and manufacturing just to offer optional fit extras.

Do they make this car in yellow or red yet? Imagine Renault Megane Liquid Yellow on this thing.

This is from a mockup company that I use at work. Looks brilliant in yellow!

A word to the wise for those of you thinking of buying one new.
So am I but given the UK's political situation I thought I'd make the following enquiry first to my nearest Alpine dealership.

"If the UK left the EU on 31/10/19 with no deal and there was a 10% tariff imposed on EU imports (which is currently a likelihood) would I pay the balance as agreed before our exit or would I be required to pay the 10% on top when the car was delivered?"

And the pretty much verbatim reply -
In the event of a No Deal Brexit, then in principle cars imported into the UK from EU after 31/10 will face a 10% import duty, which we would be obliged to pass on to the customer.
If the car is built and imported before 31/10 then there is no issue.
So I guess that’s a good incentive to order one now as we can currently definitely supply before 31/10.
And if he orders before 3/9 he will avoid the price increase too (which is about £950).

Which means, if I understand it correctly, that potentially an Alpine from November could be £5k more expensive than one before.

That looks amazing. I bet it would look great in red too.

I swore I would not have the Alpine blue until I saw the colour it then I ordered Alpine Blue.

It may be overwhelmingly the most common colour but thats because it really suits the car, and who cares if its the most common colour the cars aren't exactly common sights on the road. I have never seen another on the road.

You will enjoy the car and I am another thats not overly sold on the sports exhaust.
Sort of feel that Ferraris should be red, Lotus yellow, and Alpine blue (no coincidence that mine is blue). I don't like the sports exhaust either on the PE - but I've not heard the car with a particulate filter. Even with the sports exhaust it's not noisy inside or out, so it might be very quiet post particulate filter. Pity the sports exhaust isn't switchable.

I do wish somewhat would buy one with 17" wheels and report. Alpine have said it gives the most fun handling. Slightly sad that Dan has suffered from the widespread plague of bigwheelitis, though I can understand the choice of big brakes if he is going on track much.

Small wheels always look pony on a car though. If I was paying this much for a car I wouldn't go for trolley wheels either. If I went for one I'd go for the Blue colour even if it is the more common choice.

Congratulations Dan,

I currently live in Singapore where the cost of a decent car, or indeed any motor, is crippilingly expensive so I am going to have to enjoy the excitement of a new car purchase vicariously for the moment!

I particularly liked your joke about the discount. Enjoy in good health. Really enjoy your articles and vids. One of the top motoring journalists along with Catchpole and Bovingdon (among others). True enthusiasm.

The choice of tyres for the 18" wheels seems quite limited. At Tirerack they only list 4 tyres for the 18" sized wheels.

Then again they only list 34 tyres for the 17" combination.

My mates came from the factory on Michelin pilot sport 4 on the 18" wheels. He was saying to me that the tyre options are limited on them though.

In the cabin I’ve opted for the uprated Focal stereo, although not the top spec Focal Premium that comes with a subwoofer. That’s another £552 on the invoice.
Should have got that though.

Also, as you say, not picking the sports exhaust is a risk. But time will tell

There's' only one recommendation from Alpine - the Michelin PS4 Sport (which is specific to the Alpine), though it looks like the new Goodyear will be available ultimately. (+ a winter set)

Not heard the subwoofer - but the standard Focal system produces surprisingly solid bass - and is altogether rather impressive.

yes - my bro is a bit of an Alpine 'purist' and got the first Pure in the country and it's on the 17in wheels - it positively flows down the road, a bit like Lotus used to. he also has an original early 70's ex rally spec A110, so he can cope with the stigma of small trolley wheels.

Difficult to understand how people can pay hundreds of thousands for a Dino 246 with those tiny wheels and vast wheelarch clearance.

And heaven knows how that Hamilton bloke can bring himself to drive that Mercedes thing with 13" wheels. Has he no self respect?

Mine's got 17s, but the report will have to wait - it's in storage (I'd thought it was at the dealer but just found out the importer is holding it for them) until the new house is refurbished, hopefully in December. Incidentally it was about 5 months for me from deposit to arriving in the UK.

I seem to have a very unusual configuration - a Pure with 17s (dealer said they've only sold two with 17s) but with heated comfort seats, which you can't have on the Pure any more - I think there was only a few months when that combination was available.

Colour wise I went with the obvious blue - I've only seen three other A110s in the wild (though a fair few at the dealer and at Piste Bleue); one Alpine blue, one white, and one dark blue. They all look good to me, but the blue is just right.

ha, quite - I remember once being laughed at by a Porsche salesman for electing not to upgrade 16 to 18in 'turbo style' wheels when speccing a Cayman 2.7 - drove sweetly on the smaller wheels of course, whereas the demo car thumped/crashed and banged on the ridiculous hot wheels efforts.
