Not sure if anyone would know, but did Vauxhall ever offer the GSI bodykit on the Cav V6? I used to see one with the kit on in the late ninties, but different wheels I think...
Nor as standard, Irmscher might have done as they were the official body styling partner. Wheels were different on the V6 as they were 5 stud, the rest of the range was 4 stud.

Always loved these, but agree that £20k is very steep for a Cav (and not even a 4x4 turbo).

Having said that there would appear to be next to none left these days. A quick search yields almost no results of any for sale which is a shame - so this price point could be justified as this could very possibly be the best in the country. If you think about it like that, the price starts to make a bit more sense - especially with the motorsport pedigree like the Cosworth has.

Maybe it was Irmscher then, or taken from a GSI. Still looked quite cool back then!

That brief period of time when it was fashionable for manufacturers to fit wipers to cars' headlights. Along with foglights and the obligatory 'i' badge, a sure sign that you specced the higher trim level...

I loved these as a kid. My dad worked for Vauxhall and these seemed so very special.

£20k is steep as this dealer does take the piss on pricing. But as ever, find another..

I was always a Ford man but I did always lust after this and the Turbo and V6 model. Great memories and I love performance cars from this era.

I prefer these in other colours though and it looks a bit too ordinary for me in white.

Wow £20K ?! ouch. Still, peanuts comapred to any of the Ford offerings from this era or previous.
I think you could get an XR4x4 or 4-dr Cosworth for this money without searching too hard
Certainly a low mileage XR but the RS would have more miles

Both cheaper compared to an E30 M3 though

The Gsi is probably the rarest now

My Dad had an SRi company car of this era, he still says it was the best car he ever had he's got a lovely Volvo S90 now, but apparently the Cav was better..

I remember it got stolen about 4 or 5 times and was reversed into Police car at speed once. The garage fitted an exhaust from a Calibra because it was all they had, it was the wrong shape and looked a bit daft, but this was 'good enough' in the 90s apparently. They got stolen so much the firm my Dad worked for dropped them within 6 months of the first one being delivered. It was less than 12 months old when the seams inside the rear doors started to leak/rust.

It was cool at the time, this was back when 'Dads' pretty much had a Cavalier or Sierra and Cavaliers were cooler, we had a Sierra before this, I'm not tribal about st 90s cars, but Sierras were a bit old and sad by the early 90s.

I'm sure someone with perhaps the worlds thickest rose tinted specs would love to own this, but I can't think it would be objectively anything but a steaming pile.

Absolute ste

Anyone who’s driven cars like this, ford sierras etc can tell you they’re absolute ste.
I guess you haven't then? If these were so bad back in the day, why did they sell so well?

As soon as I saw the price, I knew people go mad laugh

It's a lot of money but, with such low mileage and rarity, it was always going to be put up for big money. You probably won't find another like this one, so hopefully someone will cherish it.

People may think it’s optimistic at £20k but it sold within about 24 hours of going on sale!

I am sorry but that price is just ridiculous. Values on cars like this are unsustainable and some point there is a big crash coming and when it does a lot of people are going to be taking a bath.

I mean £20000k for a Cavalier that if you want to keep the value in you can only drive to owners meetings and Breakfast Clubs? Bonkers.

A car is simply worth what someone wants to pay for it and this is hen's teeth territory.

I hope the new owner gets a lot of enjoyment from it.

Loved the 4x4 Cavs that I had back then.

The 8v 2.0L with the SRi engine was the quicker with the octane pug set to 98, but the GSi had the extra toys, and was a little more comfy.

The 8v was used on many a 12car, road rally and finally sprints (the rules were terrible for it as 4x4 meant is was classed as modified after the Scoobies and Evos were cleaning up just before I started.)

The GSi was PXd for the Chimaera, so it definitely played it's part, and also did do a few 12cars when Dad still had it.

£20k? Well, it’s worth whatever someone is willing to pay and obviously you only need one person to feel like that.
And as it sold quickly it suggests that someone either thought it was good vfm, there won’t be another of similar condition/mileage or they just want to relive their youth.
I seem to recollect that the awd has problems with the rear transfer box and many were ‘adapted’ so they were fwd only?
I presume that the transfer box etc may have been the reason for a raised boot floor (I stand to be corrected!)
To be fair to the GSi iirc it was pitched below the offerings from Audi and BMW and wasn’t a bad thing if viewed like that.

This was usually reviewed against stuff like the 405 Mi-16, P10 Primera GT, Audi 90, XR4x4 ( for the 4wd variants )

Lots of good cavalier memories from back in the day. The gsi was a halo model round here, not surprised it sold quickly.

I remember that - you just removed it, turned it around and replaced it I seem to recall.
