Its the biggest UK car launch since the Mini in 2001, so I would argue against your statement of a decade.

Also, why couldn't you pin this onto the main article, so now you have multiple threads running.
UK Car? Owned by Tata (India), made in Slovakia.
>>> INSERT the bit you cut off- I think a full electric 110 may well replace my RRS as the family wagon in the future<<<
...but drawn, modeled, designed, engineered, tested and validated in the Midlands, England. It's a British car, made abroad. Just like every other 'big' product these days. Who cares who pays for it, or who reads the instructions & screws it together - this is a car Designed & Engineered by the British just outside Coventry.

Thanks for the selective quote I've added my bit back in as it wouldn't stop me buying, some may see Slovakia production as over UK as a bonus.
"Who cares who pays for it or puts it together"- maybe the government? Given the delights that a break from the EU may bestow upon us- would it be classed as an import (with no doubt a bonus tax for the government) or not in the future?

Nice. Seriously considering the 110 as the next family car now.

The Rivian is going to blow this - and every other pickup/4WD - out of the water.

The Rivian is interesting, but I can’t imagine you’ll buy one here for less than £80k.

I'd rather buy an indian elephant and learn how to ride it.

Wow, pretty much universal praise, have to say it does look absolutely fantastic.

Smartypants said its what the Disco 5 should have been, completely agree, loved the Disco 3 and 4, that utilitarian edge, then was totally nonplussed what they did with the 5, totally lost its unique look, whereas this has taken what was good about the earlier Discovery and amped it up a few notches.

Looks from the video they have struck a nice balance, it was never going to appeal to the dyed in the wool off roader folk but it was never going to be a remake of the classic Land Rover. They have made something that will sell and isnt a complete chore to own, I do wonder about the folk I see locally in shiny recent ones with big wheels and fancy lights, that cant be that much fun, bet this drives as well as any SUV on road and is very capable off road.

Its bound to be the latest thing to be seen in, can see a few Evoques getting traded in.

I love it - looks great......
but aren’t new Land Rovers mostly seen on the back of break down recovery lorries?

A Skoda Yeti is the thinking man’s SUV

Well, seldom have I seen a thread on PH with so much positivity. I predict this is going to be a massive seller. They will sell as many as they can make, as fast as they can make them.

Also. I think the 90 with steel wheels would do me nicely

Nope, well, at least not in the UK. Its aimed squarely at the US market where this type of pick up rides a very buoyant market. In this country that shape and size is a niche. For builders who don't want to get their truck scratched.

Currently struggling to help my partners parents replace their Yeti. So far... a last of the line Yeti is the only option.

Love proper series Land Rovers and Defenders. I like the idea of this one, unsure the execution suits me, the price definitely doesn't. That said, I'm not the target market so that's to be expected.

I wonder if the D5 will just quietly disappear.

JLR really need to rework their ranges, so much overlap it's got to be self cannibalising.

My point is more towards the "innovative" leap that the Rivian represents.
5 seater go anywhere, tow anything, carry anything (almost) electric 4wd utility vehicle that accelerates 0-60 in 3 secs, has a range of 400 miles and storage space front and back (oh and on top and through the middle - behind the rear seats).

When the Defender was first launched - it did all of that in spades for its time. I had hoped after waiting so long for this new Defender model, that landrover might have taken the next innovative leap forward. Instead, they have remoulded a Discovery to conform to current legislation. They could have done so much more in my humble opinion...

Yes yes yes, it all looks very nice.

Do we really trust that Land Rover can build a vehicle (that works) with a bazillion ECUs etc?

Sorry to be the party pooper here but I just don't get it. There's no doubt that the new Defender is good looking and I'm sure it's excellent off road but isn't that missing a huge part of the point of the original car? I've had a couple of new defenders over the years and the joy of them was their practicality, hoseable interiors, repairability and the fact it was a working vehicle designed to do a job. I totally agree with those that have said this would make a fantastic discovery or cheaper G-Wagen but a replacement for the spirit of the defender it is not. I can't see zoo's, electricity board, military or police queuing up to replace their current defenders. I await Projekct Grenadier with interest....

Very impressed and worth the wait . The only downside is that it won't be built in the UK
