RE: GT4-based McLaren 620R leaked | PH Scoop!
Discussion
I like and respect McLarens. However, their "exclusivity" is very much overstated. Go to a McLaren dealer and ask to order a 720S, a fabulously performing vehicle. They'll tell you that in 12 weeks they'll have yours built. They'll also ask if you would be interested in any of the several brand new 720Ss that are sitting in the showroom - oh, they'll even offer a discount on the pricing. Then try going and getting another desired vehicle, say a 488 Tributo. No luck on that one! I wonder why......

Where does the roof scoop lead to - looks a bit weird on my phone?
Nowhere (well, possibly inside the cabin), it's a quick and dirty photoshop job to put it on. I assume the finished article will have a functional one though. Not that the GT4 racer features one of course, doesn't need it.But look inside the car...
The induction roar in the cabin is supposed to be phenomenal.

It's a finance option. You can pay down depreciation every day by sliding a thick wad of twenties into the scoop to be collected in a bespoke MSO carbon fibre safe behind the engine.
you say that but the 650s lemans with a roof scoop goes for an extra £100k or so over a normal car as does the 688hs and the mso 12c clubsportI personally wouldn't buy a car without one

The HS is a different car so it's always going to cost a lot more than anything else comparable. I personally wouldn't buy a car without one
A 675 with the roof scoop is not much if any more than the cost of speccing it when new as an option than one without iirc. As it's purely cosmetic and imo adds nothing to the actual driving experience, I'd always be happier buying the cheaper non scoop 675, especially as I think the scoop as implemented on the P11 (12c/650/675) cars is pretty clunky compared to being far more integrated into the design of the car like on the P1.
Note how the livery uses shapes and dark surfaces to complement the scoops and curves of the car. The result is arguably more cohesive than letting the scoops and curves carry on by themselves.
While I wouldn't cite this particular car as the acme of design, I do believe that Britain does things best in terms of visual identity.

True. If you accept the implication that the McLaren 'range' is essentially a single model with multiple variants, as the 911 is.GranCab said:

I know, isn’t it great!Shame Ferrari can’t be bothered to make a GT4 for the road. I’m sure it would probably be pretty special too.
Maybe it’ll push Ferrari into following suit?
After all without the 720S there wouldn’t be a Tributo.
Honda did it in 1990 with the NSX after the lacklustre 348 and McLaren are now keeping Ferrari honest. Whether you like McLaren cars or not that’s got to be a good thing?

the question is can it actually do decent lap times?
the senna got absolutely mauled on track by a 650s gt3, despite having big aero and hundreds more bhp
you'd be better off just buying a second hard gt3/4 (like the one for £140k in the link) and making it road legal
This has been done to death but... if you make a GT3 road legal it would have to run on road tyres wouldn’t it?the senna got absolutely mauled on track by a 650s gt3, despite having big aero and hundreds more bhp

Then see how it compares against the Senna.
Also, as I’m sure you know, race cars on the road are horrible to drive. Hot, noisy, squealing brakes and loud jerky gear changes etc.
Try parallel parking a modern GT3 race car...
Whilst no Bentley, the Senna is remarkably easy to drive on the road and for long periods.
So it’s not really comparing apples with apples is it?
Lastly - are you saying the Senna’s laptime isn’t decent?
It’s not a race car but to get within a few seconds of a full blown current GT3 race car around Silverstone on road tyres (NOT SLICKS) seems pretty decent.
But haters gonna hate I guess

Hello, I'm Sqeaky Schmee 123 and I've super-excited to have my order in for this limited release McClaren to hopefully resell later at an inflated price....
He hasn't made any serious money on his cars (yet). The Senna may be the exception (whenever he gets it back). But his business plan is sound - lease supercar, video the bejaysus out of it, post to Youtube. He's getting minimum views of 120k per video, his most popular video has 19m views, and he is approaching 2m subscribers. That pays for the leases. More cars more content, more views, more revenue, more leases... repeat & rinse! He may be a tad sickly, but his content is mostly pretty good.Edited by BFleming on Friday 11th October 22:51
Yet another sub-variant of yet another variant of the same old formula.
"McLaren reveals marginally different version of marginally different sports version of marginally different supercar, which looks similar to the last 5 cars they released"
All are sublime to drive, expensive to run, and about as interesting as watching a plank warp.

yawn.
They ain’t selling thou, he admits his long tail has dumped a tonne of cash, there was a senna with 1k miles for 250k under list on a trader and Harris on his podcast was talking about 720s hitting 150k second hand yawn.
There are 6 senna on PH for between £745-800k for an ultimate car of just 500 units that was supposed to be a safe investment that’s a lot of cars ‘cheap’
