This time last year I had the previous gen Cl500. At the time I thought one of these would be a nice upgrade eventually.
However I sold the CL a bit disappointed. In one respect it was very well made and felt top of the range. However it was also pretty poor.
Mine was low mileage and essentially mint but still needed the interior blower fan replacing as well as ongoing problems with the hifi amp which is a key part of the infotainment and very expensive.
Also some weird suspension behaviour.
I do miss it though and would still like one of these newer ones but wouldn't be fooled by the build quality.
Same here with my CLS500. Air suspension issues on a 40,000 mile car very unwelcome. Sold it disappointed too. However I sold the CL a bit disappointed. In one respect it was very well made and felt top of the range. However it was also pretty poor.

Not in the engine tho. Same as the one in the car featured, although down on power. Great engine and always felt rapid for such a big car.
Claimed 28.5 mpg .......
My C250D has a Claimed 74mpg... Part of the reason I bought it! I've never beat 49.5 mpg on a long (200+ mile) 60mph A9 Journey Edinburgh to Ullapool and day to day real world is about 40 mpg so in that basis expect 15-17 mpg hahaha... Where the hell do they get these stupidly inflated figures from, the engine on a dyno with no transmission or car surrounding it and zero road rolling resistance? That's NOT the mpg you can expect from a car and should be illegal to publish.
Looks a cracking big bus though that you'll still lose your shirt on over the next few years

Will a C250d have got into 9th at 60mph? I was amazed at the (real) 60+ mpg I got out of a recent C200d loan car. Really very impressive. My C250D has a Claimed 74mpg... My FiL has had a his S63 Coupe for 6 months now & he loves it the first owner to a hit on depreciation (but nowhere near the bath much as the FiL took on his P90d) driving it is epic & you rarely see another one on the road.
They're a lovely place to be & feel special my dad has a CL63 & uncle CL500 both are on there second & haven't had any issues both have had them for over 3 years.
The sheer amount of electronics would be a worry on the newer cars but that's the case with most new cars.

I think this is stunning, I’ve always had a thing for big Merc’s ever since I saw a 560 SEC years ago as a child.
Despite me loving this car, I’m not sure I’d be willing to pay 55k for it. Which brings me to my issue, the dashboard dials, they look a bit dated compared to the ones in my facelift C-Class. This is the thing with digital dashboards, they’re going to be updated and replaced like iPhones. Im not sure I’d be willing to pay 55 big ones on it. It sound silly for me to dismiss a car on its dials but I wouldn’t have dismissed it based on that if it had analogue dials.

Misleading to quote a list price of 100k. Given the way MB like to discount their cars in the UK, especially with finance deals, I very much doubt someone paid 100k for this brand new.
Exactly, it's the same case with the S8 Plus article last week. That also got discounted by £20k from its original £100k list price and that was before haggling.Sadly, the quality on the S Coupe is barely any higher than it is on the saloon, which is fine but a long way off something like a Continental GT or even a Panamera. I was very keen on the idea of a S500 or even a S63 from 2016 - 2017 but they are underwhelming to sit in.
