Got to be honest here, I have no love for this thing but the 0 doubling as the boot catch makes me want one.
Agreed, on that basis alone it is highly desirable

Lovely barge, a rare and soon to be very rare machine. Only 800ish taxed according to the oh-so-reliable howmanyleft. Big old Peugeots don't live to old age in large numbers.

Wouldn't mind trying a 607 as a shed-barge. But then I would like a 604 as a rare oddity.

Hate to be a party pooper, but I was selling these new when launched back in 2000, and a fault nearly all of them had was repeated failure of the micro-switch for the boot release button within the “0” on the bootlid. I was on a training course at Peugeot HQ in Coventry a few years later and the then MD of Peugeot MD who fancied himself as a bit of a card, announced to us all that at the end of the course there would be a quiz and the winner would be getting a 607.....and for the one that came last there would be a 607 as well for the wife......
I have never come across a Peugeot 607 with that issue (like 50 - 100 of them I have diagnosed, repaired or driven). All their "0" boot release button worked perfectly well, including my personal one too.

This was mine up until a few months ago. A 2006 which was was bought for £950 in August last year. I actually really liked it, it had loads of room inside, was more comfortable than anything else I’ve been in and was pretty good on fuel. It was really quiet inside aside from the clattery old Diesel engine and the JBL sound system was great.

Unfortunately it delivered on its french reputation. Although it never broke down, it had various sensor problems and error codes that couldn’t always be fixed. It needed 2 new wheel bearings, a set of glow plugs and the relay, 2 new thermostats and various other things. The last straw was when the dual mass flywheel started getting noisy.

Everyone loved the toys it had including the “0” boot release button, that was a favourite of many!

Was your engine 2.0 or 2.2 HDi?

I understand that PH hate French cars, specifically Peugeot. So, I am not expecting otherwise. But this thread is about Peugeot 607, isn't it? So, I am talking about the car.

Still think of these as fairly recent, jesus, 20 years they have been around, makes me feel old, remember going out in Didsbury with a mate of mine and went in one and thought it was quite swish for a Taxi, but then I remember the 406 being released, and riding in a brand new 406, and driving the works 305 van, and I had a Peugeot racing bike.

Mine was the 2.0hdi 136.

Also, I wouldn’t swap it from auto to manual. The manual box is crap and doesn’t suit the car like the auto does.

"the automotive equivalent of a vape" rofl

The original concept car exhibited for this looked fantastic (don't they always) but then it got watered down into this compromised blob. I was a total letdown after the 605, which was a very good looking car (I had one).

604 was another fab looking thing - slabby front end like the 504 Cab and the stunning Fiat 130 Coupe cloud9

Fab Shed - this is exactly what shedding should be about. A big comfy old barge that you drive till it drops and move on....

Lovely thing and sadly a dying breed. Peugeot are the last French brand still having a pop at this market ( is the DS5 still being made ? ) and can't see that lasting much longer.....

The interior looks nice and I'm sure it's a nice waft, but that jellymould styling is godawful.

Peugeot's styling was spot on with the '5's (205, 405, etc), less good with the '6's though still OK (406 coupe was the highlight) then went awful after that.

If you click on the user names and "My Garage" of those that really, REALLY don't like this car, you notice one of two things: either they own a BMW, or they're not even brave enough to tell us what they do own.

I sold Peugeots for many years, through the X05 and X06 years, getting out just before the 607 landed. I was never aware of the litany of electrical problems that others claim afflicted them - it was mostly flaky trim and worn rear suspension, but they seemed to soldier on uncomplainingly anyway.
