"While running costs for any Aston are high, those for the V12-powered models frequently bring the need for bottled oxygen and a team of Sherpas (as in a metaphorical requirement for expert Himalayan porters rather than Leyland vans)"

I really enjoyed that smile

Never owned one, never driven one but have been a back seat passenger. Frankly any 3 series/A4 is better comfort wise. However if you have 2 or fewer preteen kids I can see the appeal.

People are getting bigger and bigger, and taller. Why do modern cars - lets take a BMW 5 series, or audi A6 - have quite limited rear legroom? To me it seems as cars have become bigger (bloated) but the interior dimensions have not grown.

Must be one of the best looking saloons ever. I suppose the terrible rear space was the price you paid for that.

Better viewed as a very generous 2+2 than a true four seater.

Why use ALL CAPS in the advert? Hardly befitting the sale of an Aston Martin (maybe excusable in shed land but even then...).

A strange beast the Rapide. Not much more practical than the DB9 but with further disadvantages (size and bigger depreciation).

Perhaps if you had never seen a DB9 it would look quite good.

This! If space and practicality is what you want, rivals do it better.
The question is what you do if a stunningly beautiful car is what you want, but space and practicality is what you need. It's not much more practical than a DB9, but it is neverhteless more practical than a DB9. And if the rival in question is a Panamera, then it's kind of missing the point.

I'd also say it looks better than a DB9. And no, I don't own either.

I think it's one of the worst. Utterly lazy design.

Let's stretch a coupe design and pretend it's still cohesive. rolleyes

Can't stand them.

I don't think you need to be particularly brave to buy one, compared to exotic German stuff at least. The Ford sorry Aston V12 is strong, the gearbox is a ZF if I recall correctly.
Given its a Bank Holiday weekend, I’ll forgive the fact it’s taken 17 comments to trot-out the the oh-so-predictable “it’s just two Mondeo V6s bolted together!” wink

As suggested above, whatever the provenance, it’s a strong, proven engine.

Unlike most later VH V12s, the Rapide also has steel brakes rather than CCMs, so that’s one less expensive thing to (eventually) be replaced.

Hopefully a current owner can confirm real-world maintenance costs, as I suspect they’re not as eye watering as the article suggests.

Check out AM Works’ fixed price servicing online, for an indication of (what I think are) reasonable service costs.

I’ve only ever driven a Rapide on an AM Performance Driving Course. Was staggered by what it could do for a big old girl. For most people who’ve done the PDC, it’s the surprise of the day.

For AML’s sake, here’s hoping the DBX pulls the same trick, but with greater commercial success.

so from all these comments - I guess it should have been called the Aston Martin Marmite, and the Cynet the Aston Martin Sandwich Spread -

I don't think I have seen such polarized views for a while on PH - more often it's the herd mentality -

Maybe this is the new norm

Sorry couldn't resist quoting from the 2020 political thesaurus.

That's the point I was making. It's a wonderful engine. And compared to anything complex and German at least, it's comparatively bullet proof.

Or pay 1/3 of that for an equally evocative and more practical Maserati QPV?

This looks rather cheap compared to what things are selling for on a certain classic auction today!

Maybe "cheaper" because......it is not a classic Aston but a modern one?

Me too. I generally have a bit of a loathing for any modern Aston, but the uniqueness of this and it's V12 (and it's quite pretty for a 4 door) really does it for me.

Although I take offense to it's name. I have nothing against the French, but why give it a French name? It's a bit like Del Boy trying to sound sophisticated laugh
