It sounded like a quick decision taken under a tight squeeze.

Was probably a better thing than sending us Cross Stitch Monthly or simply not getting our money back!
Cross Stitch Monthly is a belter I'll have you know. biggrin

I suspect the key phrase from the FB post is the "...sort of...", which points to something other than a physical magazine.

In related news, 'Drive Nation' the Andrew Frankl & Dan Prosser podcast/instagram 'magazine' is also rebranding to a more copyrightable name after they appear to have accidentally started something that is a Going Concern.

Yes I suspect that it won't be the magazine we used to know and love, but hopefully it will be something similar, perhaps digitally.

I'm stoked for this. Really miss MC and nothing has come along to match it. I saw someone on another thread mention a new mag "Bargain Cars". I checked this out at my local WH Smiths and at £3.99 for 44 pages, it didn't really do the business for me and I don't think it will last.

With many of the generation that grew up in the 1980s and 1990s in a position to re-purchase formerly loved cars as Modern Classics, there's a strong pool of potentially interested readers for a publication concentrating on cars from the 90s to 00s, that are not old enough for the likes of C& SC and CC, which are stuck in their 1960s-1980s time-warp!

Absolutely this. The car magazines that generally interest me cover cars that I can afford and love. Like many I grew up with cars from the 80s, 90s and 00s and there is currently no other title quite fulfils this brief for me.

I complained to Bauer about switching my sub to Car from Modern Classics without any option or choice, and they changed it to Classic Cars. Not quite what I had signed up for, but a lot more interesting than Car (for me).

I would think twice (likely three times) about subscribing to any of their magazines in future, due to how it was handled.

I wonder if they were sneaky and used the "don't spam me" preferences to not contact certain subscribers about refunds. I definitely got a letter asking me if I wanted my money back - perhaps it was because I paid by direct debit, and it was people who paid 'cash' who were done over.

Has Andrew Frankel left Autocar magazine then? Bit of a surprise if he has as he was part of the furniture and I've read his stuff on there for at least 25 years!

I got a letter telling me my sub was being changed to Car, no option of a refund and I paid by DD.

Anyway, I look forward to see what both the new MC and Strada come up with, hopefully not too much crossover and that they can co-exist.

That's interesting, I definitely didn't get a letter and was never given the option for a refund when I opened the complaint. It was a case of switch to a different magazine, or suck it up. That definitely hardens the resolve to never subscribe to any of their magazines again!

I also paid DD and got no offer of a refund only a subscription to Car which I instantly cancelled and I received two issues as that's what they owed me apparently. I flicked through the first and decided I wasn't interested then the next went in the bin, I would love for Modern Classics to come back though, i'd be willing to support that again.

I had only recently subscribed when the mag folded, so perhaps I was within a cooling off period which is why I got offered a refund - there was (from memory) an online portal for you do it via.

I hope the new venture works out, I keep telling people my Lexus daily driver is a 'modern classic' to make me seem like a connoisseur rather than a cheap skate who can't be bothered buying a newer car biggrin

If I sold all 4 of my cars I could easily afford a new one. However, why on earth would I want to do that?

I love having the choice of cars to drive and just enjoy driving older cars generally. There's a kind of inverted snobbery to it.

All my family drive older cars and none of us are short of a bob or two. My cousin runs a 2008 Mini Cooper S as his daily and lives in a £1.5m house in St Albans. I love that! biggrin

Generally I'm not a fan of Car (too many new cars full of tech that I'm just not interested in), but I actually thought this month's was really interesting (Hot Hatch feature was good, for example) - I get it free via my bank though, I wouldn't pay for a subscription.

Had a Modern Classics sub since Day 1, and I was offered a Car sub or a refund, so I took the refund.

Definitely interested in any resurrection, or Strada (or both)

I would agree, I save a decent amount of money every month. That several hundred quid goes in savings and towards holidays.

Cars after 2010 just do t appeal to me, after I sell my current daily I will go electric tbh.

I don't wish to be a 'modern cars are rubbish' type, but you are somewhat out of luck if you don't want a 4-cyl turbo these days.

Another reason I'm happy with a 13yr old V6....

So, there's a Modern Classics section in the Practical Classics mag today. The good news is that I can get that on Readly..

Fingers crossed the new venture works out, i really enjoyed reading Modern Classics.

I also like how on PH a thread about a magazine turns to 'I could afford a new car, i am quite wealthy don't you know...' after a few posts wobble

I must admit, I do find it a little sad that the relaunch is simply a tacked on section (similar to what's happened to Retro Cars) in another magazine, but I guess in the current financial climate, no publisher would want to take on the whole mag as a going concern.
