RE: Citroen BX | Shed of the Week
Discussion
Nice to see a BX, they were everywhere when I was a kid, never drove one and thought they were ugly as sin but have a certain something.
I would love to know the thought process of it being red for all those years and someone thinking "Hmm, what my BX needs is wrapping in gold, fairly badly"
It will come off easily enough but I am wondering if the bumpers are wrapped or were rattle canned which may be more difficult to sort than peeling the body is.

The only time I have been caught speeding was when I had a 16V version. It was a real hoot and encouraged poor behaviour. I received a letter telling me I had to attend court. When asked by the judge how I would plead I reasoned that as I had not seen any photo evidence, I could not. The court usher handed me a Gatso pic of my car with two wheels either side of a double white line and a recorded speed that would see Marty McFly go back to the future. I pleaded guilty.
Mrs LLA's first car was a BX 14, I loved it. It was scrapped after some hydraulic failure or other, but the rest of the car was in such great nick I often wonder if I should've maybe got a second opinion and committed the cash to keeping it on the road. Felt quite guilty weighing it in, especially as they weigh so damn little!

Now that's a proper shed. The gold wrap gives it a 70s style cool whilst at the same time having been done so amateurishly that it gives away the piss take nature of the car. The photo of the Haynes manual on the front seat and all the crap out of the front of the car chucked on the rear seat also brought a smile to my face.
I suspect this is a legacy user having some fun with his free advert. If not then bravo to the seller.
70s cool for a 90s car is that a compliment?I suspect this is a legacy user having some fun with his free advert. If not then bravo to the seller.
Great find!
There just aren't many BXs around, so £1350 for a non-rusty one sounds about right to me. After all, if you want a hydropneumatically suspended family hatch with supercar styling, what else are you going to get?
With reference to the poster caught speeding in his, I recall a friend who had a BX as his first car, he also had both English and French driving licences, and his driving style reflected the confidence that losing one of the two wouldn't be a disaster!

ACE! - proper shed.
The one 4x4 that is still registered on the roads mentioned in the write up is my dad's car that he uses almost daily - he calls it the black pig"
It is a J plate 4x4 GTi with 40k on the clock that I am keen to buy off him as he's 77 now and perhaps not the right keeper for it...

Had a beige estate version with brown velour interior!!
Was a hoot to drive and it being a company car could carry more than more articulated lorries!
I have to say though i was never struck on the looks and a babe magnet it was not!!
I don't yearn for one so will pass on the opportunity, but love the advert top man!!

Oh yes, what a beauty, deserves saving! Love a BX, though would feel a bit vulnerable driving a flimsy plastic Citroen these days!
These were one of the first 'decent' diesels - ie turbo with a decent output.
"here in the UK, the most exotic BX was the GTI".
There was a GTI and a GTI 16v, no? - the 16v was the one to have!

A proper shed, but due to the rarity of the BX these days, seems strong money for a pretty scruffy looking car.
By comparison a good friend of mine has for the last 6-7 years run a now equally rare 2001 Xantia Estate 1.8. Like the BX it has hydropneumatic suspension, but it has a sweet running petrol engine, rather than a stinky old generation diesel, which is on 150K miles and uses no oil between services. It has no rust and passed its MOT with no advisories last year. He paid £500 for it, has put 100K miles on the thing and would take £500-£750 for it now. That BX rather makes my friend's car look like a bargain, I have to say!
