April 2000)Brand new Impreza Turbo - First ever brand new car.
Mar 2002)Brand new Renault Clio 1.2 Dynamique, got sick of the Impreza running costs. Picked it up on new plate day, was my favorite new car collection.
Mid 2003)Brand new Import 206 CC. I desperately wanted a convertible, what was I thinking. Sold it very quickly once I realised how much I hated it and the comments I got.

Now it gets a little hazy date wise, this is when the sheds started.

Late 2004)S Reg Renault Laguna, £1500, great car.

2006)P reg Audi 1.8 Turbo. Felt so solid and refined compared to anything I had ever owned before. I think I owned this for the remainder of the decade.

2007)Bought a 53 plate 1.9 DCI Scenic Mk2 for the (ex) wife. My parents still have this car although it hasn't moved in a couple of years.

I had an N-reg 306 XSi at the start of the decade. Then a 52 plate Civic Type-R in 2002. Changed that for a 2005 RX-8 in 2006. Changed that for a 2005 Elise 111R in 2009. Still got the Lotus.

Over the same period we had some other cars - I bought my wife a Citroen AX 1.5D to learn to drive in, and she immediately chopped that in for a 2002 MX-5 1.8 the week she passed her test. Then she traded that in for a 350Z sometime around 2009/2010. When I got the Elise, I also picked up an old Impreza Sport estate - the two litre 130bhp-ish one.

The motoring wilderness years for me...

Buying houses, becoming sensibler, needing something for the commute rather than the fun:

The Fiat Marea 20v was pretty much the pinnacle of the noughties for me:

Whilst the Marea was pretty nippy it wasn't very frugal. 27mpg and 20k miles a year started to hurt, so I took the plunge into diesel-land:

Shiny blue Peugeot-y diesel-ness. A 206 2.0 HDi Turbo, which turned out to be not so bad - wodges of torque, soft suspension and 55mpg. Sadly one winters afternoon after a rain storm it fell foul of that other Peugeot fun favourite - lift off oversteer and made sweet sweet love to a passing tree (that should be trees plural):

Undeterred I went for another diesel:

Turning Japanese again. This time the Colt 1.5 Di-D Equippe. A smart forfour in disguise. Really quite nippy for a little diesel and felt more like a minor hot/warm hatch so was at least fun to chuck about.

And that saw the noughties out (and a chunk of the - whatever you call the decade that came after. The teenies sounds wrong. The tennies? Good luck with that thread...).

Started with a carry-over from the 90s with my Sierra RS Cosworth which started to become hugely unreliable and expensive so it was tucked away, and a Mk2 Escort RS2000 which was lost in a fire. Domestication and sensibility followed with
'98 Polo 1.4 (came with a Ms Genx and gave incredible sterling service. 0 -> 260,000 miles, in that time only need routine maintenance and one rear shock absorber)
Mk5 Golf GTD170 (quick, economical and all I needed for a while)
Mk5.5 Escort RS2000 (bought from my mum, I was only the third keeper and had it until about two years ago)

And that was it until the 2010s. It seems like I settled down after the 90s.

I may have missed a couple, it was a busy decade with more than one car per year. Mostly quite forgettable cars, with a couple I loved.

Continuing on from the 90s thread, had my '95 Fiat Cinquecento Sporting then

'95 Vauxhall Astra 1.4 LS (a rather remiss "upgrade")
'91 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 (back on track)
'04 MG ZR 105+ (company car)
'03 Mazda MX-5 1.8 Nevada
'90 BMW 325i Convertible
'94 VW Corrado VR6
'00 VW Golf GTi 2.0
'08 VW Polo 1.4 TDI SE
'09 Fiat 500 1.2 Pop

There were a couple of mk5 Golf company cars in there too. Bit of a shaky end and start but quite good in the middle and fitting that I started and ended the decade with a small red Fiat!

Bought first car in 2001 (after 50 weekends of overtime), 98R Rover 216 SLi from 2001-2007ish. Best interior, engine and looks of the small hatches I could fit in and afford. Eventually got a bit expensive to keep fixing fix so part-exed for:

2007 to 2012 54 plate Seat Toledo TDi 150. Basically followed an inherited love of Golfs but couldn't afford the real thing and liked the big boot. Comfy, quickish, well-equipped, lots of niggles. Slightly over-stretched on the finance. fkwit wrote off the Toledo around 2012 by turning right blind across me at some traffic lights. Would have been more gutted if it hadn't needed £1500 worth of niggles fixing, including back doors which hadn't locked for a year or more, plus a funny damp smell.
