RE: Pinch-me Honda Integra Type R for sale
Discussion
I was in an MR2 rev3 turbo many years ago, this thing flew past me, it sounded unreal I mean like nothing else ever had, if you get me. I obviously ended up trying one, I loved how it allowed you to bounce off the rev limiter and yes It did feel light on its 'feet' it made the Toyota feel 'solid' by comparison. Quite as to why Honda couldn't design the F20 from the 2000 to 'bounce' always puzzled me, the flashing rev limit light at 9000 is pointless as you're already there and then it simply cuts out nastily.

Thought about buying one new in 1999 but went with an Impreza instead. As we were in Switzerland the latter’s AWD was very useful - with winter tyres never needed snow chains to get to the ski slopes. However have always hankered after one but can’t seem me having one now. Would have to be white with red seats though if I did.
The Impreza and Integra were similar prices in the UK at the time. The Impreza felt more fun day to day.I had a CRX VTEC and loved it, had a few goes in the local dealer's Integra, and bought an Impreza!

I feel like I've really missed out with not getting an opportunity to have a go in one of these. ![driving](/inc/images/driving.gif)
It is one of very few cars that you never hear a bad word spoken about them.
They really are as good as people say. Everything about them is either very good or excellent. ![driving](/inc/images/driving.gif)

- Great seats and driving position
- Light for its size; 1100kg for a car the size of an E36 3 series
- Marvellous, howling engine that sung all the way to near 9,000 rpm
- Wonderful mechanical box, one of the best I've used, and the gearing was perfect to keep on the boil
- Rapid acceleration, even by todays standards; felt like it was hurling you towards the horizon once on cam
- Stable, unflappable handling that did exactly what you wanted. Grip, slide, it does it all
- Powerful, fade resistant brakes
FWD or not, it was a proper drivers car...
That being said, I prefer a bit of midrange meat in my cars these days, probably partially age, but also better for road use. The teg would have been a great track car, and it was still a very good road car, but it was the sort of car that just begged you to go faster all the time and the engine preferred to be worked hard, and as a result, it was difficult to keep on the right side of the law

I've always had a real soft spot for the Recaro seats in them as well.

I had one which I ran for around 50k miles. Good car but I didn't think it was that great. Depends what you are after but I certainly wouldn't expect a standard car on original parts to be a particularly exciting car to drive these days.
A good car no doubt but I don't find it as wonderful as some do.

Was always more of a fan of the ek9 (an subsequently owned one for a while), but massive respect for these. DC5's are still sort of accessible as they're generally cheaper than DC2's, but i doubt that'll be for long.
Coincidentally i did have an s14a like a few on here. The story went, bought an S14a touring from a honda dealer as a single-lady-owner trade in against an FN2 type-R - bought the S14A for £3.5k, as a single lady owner vehicle with 34k miles. Swapped the s14a after a few years for an EP3 (which. after being worth literally nothing for years, are now creeping up in value too). Swapped the EP3 for an EK9 which at the time was a fairly good deal both ways. Then finally sold the EK9 for £6.5k.
Think there's an EK9 on ebay for £25k. Wows.

Considered buying one 10yrs ago to hillclimb with, bought my 172 Cup instead, Teg would’ve been more competitive as it would’ve been in the class below the Clio. Amazed I never saw any on the hills.
Sadly they were too expensive to justify it at the time, luckily I still love the 172![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)

Keeping my EP3 now, will be worth something one day (hopefully!)

Just wondering, would the teg be in the class below the Clio due to being a 1.8? Sadly they were too expensive to justify it at the time, luckily I still love the 172

I haven't really done any hill climbs, sadly, however, assuming they were very narrow roads with hairpin bends (?) then I'd wager a teg might not be the best choice for this; I think I'd want a shorter wheelbase/overall length, and more midrange torque to pull out of bends. The teg I think was at its best on good A-roads, and some B-roads as long as they don't get too tight and twisty.
To be honest, I think the track is the best place for a teg overall, as it allows you to really stretch its legs, and that's where it's stable handling and powerful brakes come into their own.

Yep, we have strange classes down here!
Interesting comments, perhaps I chose the right car after all!
I've had a couple of RS Clios, I had a 182, gotta be honest, the teg was a superior car in almost every respects, but I will say you probably did in this case as the 182 was pretty agile on the tighter bends. The best car I had for that was a lightly modded MR2 Roadster, but then the engine was weak. Would have been epic with a Turbo or Supercharger.Interesting comments, perhaps I chose the right car after all!

Competed against an MR2 at my 1st two events (novice class), we won 1 each!bencollins4 said:
I bought a 1 owner 54,000 Mike car 3 years ago for about £8k. A fantastic car and as usual for me, sold far too soon, but a perfect Elise turned up that I had to have.
A car which felt great driving normally, absolutely sensational when pushed hard. What an engine, what a chassis!
My plan on retirement is an Elise with Honda power. Best of both worlds? A car which felt great driving normally, absolutely sensational when pushed hard. What an engine, what a chassis!

I remember this car coming up for sale...but can't remember if it was Apr-19 or more recently.
Interesting that it's being sold on so soon after...and especially at probably not much more than was paid for it in 2019...even with the mileage, I'd be going over the bodywork very carefully looking for rust...

Jokes on me, I should have kept it in the garage. Hardly worth selling for £5k when I look back on it now.
I sold my second one for £3,600 8 years ago - bottom of the bloody market! Needed the arches sorting, sure, but had FHSH, new clutch, new RTA bushes and working aircon. Oh, and a second set of wheels. Not a month goes by where I don't kick myself... ...

13,995 GBP is something like 19,200 USD right now - that's a steal for this car, lots of Integra Type R's are selling for more (or a LOT more) than that on Bring a Trailer. Maybe the market's just stronger in the US. They'll never make another car like this again, it's a shame. Really an experience that can't be replicated any more.
2000 with 29k = $62k
2000 with 142k(!) = reserve not met(!) at $24.5k
2000 with 100k and jdm front end $19,050
1996 jdm/rhd import with 107k sold for $23,250
1997 with 78k miles sold for $65,000(!!)
1998 with 30k (but TMU, probably actually 63k) sold for $42,000
