Somehow doesn't seem too brave to me. I think this is one of these times that rarity is a benefit as someone in the relatively small maserati world will know how to sort most issues as and when they arise. Bravery probably only required if you ding it or can't keep it in a dry garage.

Brilliant Brave Pill!!! I had a Mk4 QP with the glorious twin turbo 3.5 litre V8. That was a fabulous car to drive and a fantastic grand tourer. My tour of the South of France, Switzerland, and Tuscany in it was one of my most memorable automotive experiences ever, and that includes subsequently owing a Ferrari F355 F1 Spider, and various other V8's including SL55, XK8, Chrysler 300 Hemi V8, and Jaguar XF-S V8. I still miss the QP4 to this day! With the correct regular servicing from Meridien Modena it was also impressively reliable, and the verdi mexico paintwork with briar wood and cream leather interior with the famous oval gold clock shamed even Bentley and RR. What other car has ever had hand made cream leather clip on covers for the chromed headrest stays??? This Ghibli GT is also a gorgeous colour, and although a little less 'wolf in sheep's clothing' than my QP4 it is still a very desirable 1990's classic Maserati!!

I had a quote for the glass, the tooling was about £4000 and then a couple of hundred quid per set.

Spread around lots of owners the cost is ok, however there aren’t lots of owners out there !!

I’ve got one, spares are becoming an issue, but i think it llooks cool especially the interior - providing you don’t have wood. Performance is ok for a 23 year old car. By 1998 they had ironed out most of initial problems and some of the rust.

Is it that brave ?? Not for fair weather car, but wouldn’t use it as an everyday car. In 14 years mine has only been recovered once.

My first ever PH post. Nice article thanks Pistonheads. Interesting to read the comments too which are mainly appreciative of a special example.

Just a couple of points to note.

Parts availability is no problem if you know Stuart @ Trident Spares or David Askew.

Front subframe is as good as the rear, as described in the advert, it’s had the whole underneath redone.

Auto suits the car, who would buy a 20+ year old Ghibli to drive it hard, it’s to cruise around in, take out for the day, take to a show etc.

The old advert is 4 years ago prior to thousands being spent on the suspension, diff, wheels, tyres etc. It’s also had other works to make it as good as it can be. I personally believe it to be up there with the cars that have won the Maserati Concours in recent years which were also supplied by us.

Thanks for the positive reactions to a rare and special car. Richard Grace

A lovely evocatively shaped car, very much of its era. Not sure about the interior colour though. As it is being sold by Richard Grace I would have no issues with quality or history. I am a delighted Maserati customer of his.

These are a great looking thing to my eyes. I've always thought that the engine bay was really nice and easy on the eyes as well.

I'm not brave enough though, but hats off to those who are.

It was provisionally sold a few months ago but I think the buyer pulled out due to unforeseen circumstances. If I could afford it I'd be seriously tempted as I know Dicky has an excellent reputation when it comes to Masers.
So the brave pill is a Dicky Maser? What could possibly go wrong?

Great lurking. I have amended my original post to correct my error as I had not realised that it had been four years since the original advert was placed, and also that the car had undergone significant additional remedial works. I only pointed it out as the original advert is still the top hit when I google "Ghibli GT for sale".

It certainly does look like one of the best examples of this car that's been available for sale in the UK for a very long time.

The looks aren't for everyone initially but when you see these in person they really do have a huge amount of presence.

I was looking to get a Ghibli about 9 years ago when the few that were available were between £9k and £15k. All were 2.8 autos of varying interior colours - None as nasty as this one's though :-)

I decided that reliability could be a costly problem and ended up buying my 4th Integrale under the principle of "stick with what you know" (plus I hadn't had an Evo up until that point in time)... The Evo ironically set a new personal record of the number of roadside breakdowns within 12 months (5 in total).

Should've got the Mazzer!

Lovely. And what a deliciously decadent, rococo-esque cabin. Only the Italians could make that combo work.
Is the autobox a ZF? If so, could it be swapped for a six-speed version?

The same dealer had a Ghibli Cup not that long ago. Now THAT would be the one I would go for! Hens teeth and an appreciating wonder, with a smaller capacity (2.0) V6 and a much more sorted chassis. Did I mention manual too?

Yes from me, still hanker after Quattroporte 3.2 Evoluzione built after Ferrari took over and changed 800+ components but this would do

Perfection. I really love these and will buy one at some point. I’m pretty sure the two litre V6 was sold in the uk as the Ghibli Cup. And would be my choice

Yes you are correct.

The Cup:

https://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/events/cca-ju... (ex drug dealer ride?)

And there was an 'Open Cup' series:

I still regret not buying an open cup evo to this day. When I bought my tvr chimera I was split between a nearly new chim 450 and an open cup evo that had been road registered in Germany and a very tatty 4.7 ghibli series 1. They were all approx the same price at the time (£27000 if memory serves). I was so tempted by the race car but I needed a single car solution and couldn’t quite make it work for the daily commute etc with the stripped out racer. The classic ghibli 4.7 was lovely but had major old car issues like rust and well worn everything so would have not been a usable proposition either. Looking at prices now, I fear it was a major mistake.

That looks stunning. Always loved the muscular stance on these. Remind me of a modern day De Tomaso.

Would prefer black wood trim and full blood leather - the walnut looks a bit odd with red and grey.

Otherwise, the best example you can currently buy.

Great to see one of these featured, and this is a special example, I hope it finds a new home soon. I’m lucky enough to have one of these, a ‘99 rhd 6 speed manual in superb condition. Drove it for the first time in a couple of months, just this week, and what a car - fast, direct, well sorted, they really are hidden gems (to the many).
A throwback, yes, and all the better for it - way, way better than those that aren’t in the know would ever realise. The third gear shove that someone else has mentioned is thrilling and very real.
