Great write up, I love the look of this. Between the Sandero Stepway (the new one is a nice looking thing), Duster and Jogger I think Dacia really have a great range of cars now, and whilst they are still 'budget' most of the ones they actually sell are loaded with kit.

The lower end Stepway (and I believe, the Jogger) has a grip for your phone in the dashboard rather than a built in system, then with the Dacia app you basically have a fully functional touchscreen (and a much better one than supplied in even high end cars, easily upgradeable too) without the complexity and cost of a built in system which is more often than not kinda rubbish. I know it's been done before (the VW Up has/had a similar system) but it's really well integrated and, in my opinion, a much better alternative to the cheap systems which most manufacturers install.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a Renault Kangoo/Mercedes Citan isn't it? Which would hopefully mean it's designed to survive quite a lot of abuse. It is one of the last 7 seaters out there, but sadly it's not as smart as Zafiras and SMaxes, as you have to remove the back row of seats, rather than fold them away. And being able to magic up the seats makes such a difference in holiday, visiting friends etc. Not so helpful when the seats are in the garage at home...

I was considering one of these but saw the Autotrader review which mentioned the MPG was woeful, circa 20? Has anyone got any real world figures?

Nope it isn't anything to do with the Kangoo/Citan, it is basically a stretched Sandero/Stepway.

No the seat folding isn't as smart as the vastly more expensive and complicated Zafira's and S'Max's, it is cheap so therefore certain things are missing!!

Where did you see that? Autotrader said the fuel economy was great

I have the same engine in the Duster. My London commute gets me 38 mpg, that's rush hour surface streets on which my Mustang would return 12 mpg.

On a run staying at 75 mph on the motorway it'll get 45/48 mpg and during the shortages, driving carefully with the cruise on 50, I managed 62 mpg over 100 miles.

Mine is the 100bhp 3 cyl 999cc engine.

I think it's not bad at all for a petrol and I am heavy footed and never get the figures that the manufacturers come out with.

Lol I think that is a typo, I noticed our demo was showing something in the 40's when I moved it a few days ago.

Depends how you drive it, if your constantly at the top of the rev range economy will be poor. This guy tests lots of cars on the same mixed route and got 61mpg in the Jogger.

Seems exactly the sort of transport that would appeal to a car enthusiast of even modest means - it resolves the daily driver obligations as inexpensively as possible (because warranty) and possibly allows the surplus to fund something you neither wish to or can afford to commute and haul stuff with. Depending on what that now cosseted second car might be it would be good to know if the Dacia is up to towing much.

Non-SUV 7-seaters are almost extinct.

A quick look at What Car?'s top 10 MPVs (in reverse order!) reveals the following:

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer - no longer on sale
Volkswagen Sharan - no longer on sale
Seat Alhambra - no longer on sale
Ford S-Max - hybrid only, cheapest version is £30k with discount
Citroën Grand C4 Spacetourer - no longer on sale
Vauxhall Combo Life - only available as an EV with a ridiculously short range
Peugeot Rifter - only available as an EV with a ridiculously short range
Ford Galaxy - hybrid only, cheapest version is £30k with discount
Volkswagen Touran - cheapest version, with discount, is £30k
Citroën Berlingo - only available as an EV with a ridiculously short range

Notably the cheapest Ford Tourneo Grand Connect is £23,600 with a 100hp diesel.

Still, looks to me like the Jogger is going to clean up.

PH is so funny sometimes.

800bhp, 200mph Audi 'crossover'? Nope. It's "hideous".

£230/mth for an asthmatic Romanian 'crossover'? Fantastic. Deal me in.

And these same people are probably the ones moaning about "the death of fun motoring" or similar.

I'm struggling to see the issue there, any manufacturer can, apparently, throw power at an overweight, overstyled car which they can pluck a price out of the air for, would such a thing automatically be 'fun' even with 800hp? Doubt it. Very few are building very decent cars which massively undercut the so called premium brands, and getting us somewhere near the simple joy of a having a practical, usable car actually designed for day to day use rather than ticking marketing buzz word boxes.

PH is eclectic bunch but generally most here appreciate good, honest cars (with physical controls!) Just look at the Duster thread, that car is the exact opposite of what most of the manufacturers are building, yet it's popular here.

I love the fact that these things are popular here, most of us have neighbours/colleagues etc who will automatically buy a German badge, preferably in some sort of sport line trim with oversized wheels, not because they are what they need, but because those are the cars that many perceive they should be seen in. You'd hope/assume that a enthusiast motoring website would attract the opposite of that, a place where people would buy a Dacia because it's all that they actually need (especially for a daily), not because they've bought into marketing and feel they need a 1600kg crossover to drive 5 miles to work every day.

Cars like the jogger are there to remember that MPVs are far superior than SUVs at the 7 seats/internal comfort business.
And I say that an actual SUV owner. I still remember fondly our old Renault grand espace.. unbeatable

I agree that the foldable seats are great, but if you are going to use the 7 seats often, you may find that the foldable seats are nowhere near as comfortable as the removable ones, which usually have the same level of refinement than the others

I want one!

No, I NEED one!

We live in Snowdonia, up a dirt track, and currently drive a Land Cruiser 120. It’s amazing, but TBH I don’t really need its ability and certainly don’t need 22mpg.

I imagine a bottom of the range, steel wheels, decent tyres and a “send it” style of driving should get it 90% of the places I’ll ever need to go.

(Off to Google Dacia dealers)

I went to have a look at a Jogger a few days ago and was impressed at how much thought appeared to have gone into it. It was full of the sort of kit you would use regularly and had none of the kit you’d use a few times and then forget about. Combined with the asking price, it’s a compelling proposition. I hope they do really well with it.

I’ve had Renault Espaces for the last 20 years and sad to see the demise of the MPV. I saw the review of one of these in Car magazine and thought it was genius.
What the PH article doesn’t mention is that this 7 seater not only costs only £15,000 but it also only weighs 1200kgs.
What is everyone else doing?
