I wondered that as well.
To “dampen” engine vibrations?

With a short shift lever, the whole lever vibrates when under acceleration?

My only experience of a Capri was a Scalextric one. The handling was piss poor, it rolled frequently and was no match for the Mini Coopers. The Escort Mexico was no better, that rolled on almost every corner.

Anyway, I don't see the attraction of this Pill, if I wanted a Ford 5 litre V8 I'd buy a Mustang... or a Vantage.

WOuld have to lose the rear spoiler and the blingy fuel filler cap.
Yeh I like it too but that spoiler would have to go - spoils the standardish look

A good looking car the Capri, especially the Mk1. When I had a chance to buy a nice, clean Mk3 (I think it was) opted for a BMW E21 instead, one of my better decisions as a young motorist.

Matter of taste but not my thing either. That said the rear wing sort of goes with the X Pack arches, although I always think the X Pack is more 70's than 80's and therefore sits better on a 3.0 than a 2.8.

I'd have it looking standard, apart from the 5.7 badge.biglaugh

Originally red but the bulkhead is silver.
Chopped down inner wings with , presumably, heat reflective foil covering them.
No don't get it.

Nice.

Can't resist a pedantic comment that the grill and light covers would be better in black in a continuous strip like a Testerossa rear.

Why the Windsor? It was looking so good until that point.

Capris remind me of the BMW 635 CSI. I'd rather have (and did) the beemer. It was a much better car and didn't have the 'Minder' / 'del boy' image problem. I imagine head-to-head there wouldn't be much difference in ultimate performance between the two cars (assuming the Capri was a similar spec and not a 1.3)

There was a Ford sanctioned Capri V8 in period , but only in South Africa. It had a 5 litre Ford Windsor V8 and was called the Perana - possibly because the Piranha name was already owned by a third party .

I like Capris, despite , or possibly because of their louche , fur coat and no knickers image. I drove a couple , and travelled in many more , from the weedy little 1.3L up to the growly V6 , which lived up to the bulging bonnet looks .
Yep they did a Granada as well

80k seems a lot

Craig at Dyno Torque would have dropped an LS in this for 25k. Even allowing for other bits you wouldn't be anywhere near 80k

When they resprayed this red, why did they use a different shade of red paint for the doors?
I’d suggest it’s the way the ambient light angles off the panels, the door is relatively flat but the X-Pack panels either side reflect the light off at different angles.

As for the Perana, Basil Green Motors, near Jo’burg where the company responsible
If I remember right, Basil Green never made a Capri Perana of this vintage, their official ones were all based on the Mk1 (I may be wrong of course)

Love the X-Pack arches. Would have left it green without the rear wing and with silver wheels.

Laughed at the advert saying £80k was spent on the conversion then £70k then £60k as you read on. It’s like your mate saying I caught a fish and it was this big, well actually this big, oh, okay, it was really this big…

I wouldn’t buy it in a month of Sundays.

Or is it so that the gear lever is closer to the wheel, to snatch an upshift quicker when doing a standing quarter mile or whatever?

Perhaps it's lighter, could make more power and use less fuel though.

Wrong engine, it's too heavy. The rover based alloy V8 was a better deal, lighter so better weight distribution. Plenty of power to overwhelm the 1970s style brakes and suspension.

It would have been a bit of a dinosaur in the 1990s, 30 years on I suspect the pool of mullet sporting cowboy boot purchasers is fairly shallow.
