The numbers are something else, I really really like the 720S and this moves the game on again.

Who buys these ? A new one, depreciation is absolutely massive. A used one, are you brave enough ?

I'd love a 720S, can't afford one by any stretch so mute points above.

I remember a few years back pretty much everybody on this forum were laughing at how ugly the 720S was.

Glad to see things have changed.
Nothing’s changed - just sick of saying the same thing over and over again.

My opinion is that the car is not ugly overall. I think it’s a great design, except for those headlights.
If they fixed that it would be a very good looking car indeed, and the performance is obviously amazing.

Personally I just don’t think I could get past those headlights enough to want to buy one when there are other cars out there with similar performance that to my eyes look better.

Obviously my opinion only and fair play to anyone who disagrees.

Yep, not a fan of the front. Or the likely depreciation.

I quite like the look of these. Reminds me a bit of a modern slant of a jag xjr-15 shape.

However it can’t be easy selling them at list when anyone sufficiently well heeled could buy a similar price (limited run) Porsche GT 911 that maintains or goes up in value while the mclaren sheds £125 k over 3 yrs.

Don’t understand the comparison with the MC20. This has an extra 130bhp and costs about £60k more, so a whole market sector up.
Plus, on Harry's Garage, the MC20 weighed over 200kgs more than Maserati claim..... Performance wise there's no comparison. Plus, I gather the McLaren has SOME storage space.

only a sector up on price. Nothing else.
It's over 400kgs lighter and has what, 20% more power laugh seemingly very fun to drive too.

You'll be waiting given that 5/6 yo 720S are still above £120k...I really like the MC20 as well but the 750s is a level up in performance terms. Seems alot of nice small changes especially the lift button...a total faff in every prior Mclaren. And Mclaren LT cars all sound great especially the 600LT spider when you drop the back window...

And in the real world probably about half a ton lighter.

Beautiful thing - only downside is it looks just like any other McL.
This is the one McLaren that I think is instantly recognisable as a 720 - the rest of the range I agree with you

Love the way the main body falls from rear to front and the cockpit rises up and is then pushed back into the falling front. Makes the area round the rear wheels looks REALLY aggressive. Also from above how the cabin is basically a teardrop into the rear exhausts.
Front lights though, still crap, though better when body coloured
2.8sec to 60 and @ 7 to 124mph - not slow then
With tha performance and so few gripes...well done McLaren.

Was interested in the colour coded lights, thanks for posting. Those lights still look quite dark even with the additional colour applied

A used McLaren (of any vintage) appeals a lot.

It's just a shame their reputation for reliability or lack of it is so damning.

Maybe that's why some of them look like relative bargains.

It would still be a 458 for me but the performance difference between a 458 and a 720S must be hilarious. I think I could console myself with the noise the 458 makes.

Interestingly, I don't think any flat-planed V8 sounds that great, and I include the 458 in that. It sounds loud, and it's not a "bad" noise, but I personally think there any many, many better sounding configurations. Most turbo cars don't sound that great (certainly not compared to a nice NA equivalent). For example, I think any "GT" NA Porsche 6 sounds far better than the 458.

There are nine 720S on AutoTrader right now that are between £120k and £130k. There's one that's just below £120k.

I think these have aged reasonably well, and they're obviously utterly phenomenal to drive. McLaren have a problem with the reliability image, regardless of how much truth is in it, however, it's tough to see how they can get out of that.

The equivalent Ferrari (that probably isn't quite as competent) is £70k more expensive at the bottom of the market, which is absolutely wild.

Will there be an 800LT? Or is this truly the end?
Of course there will but not before the 750 LT, 750 LTS-R, 800S and they will all look identical.

Looks are, as ever, a subjective thing.

To me these are absolutely hideous - from the front, side or rear, with no redeeming details whatsoever.

I thought the very first McLaren road car (12C) looked good, and everything since then has been indistinguishable pretty much in the way that a turd always looks like a turd.

They also are one of the very rare cars which, to me, manages to look awful in photographs and is even worse in the flesh.

Considering what the various competitors offer, on looks alone, I am astounded that anyone with decent eyesight ever pays money for these.

A shame, as I am sure that they drive sensationally, and I am a big supporter of the company generally.

Like I said, purely subjective but, for me, not an option.

What makes you say that? Reviews seem to suggest the McLaren is good fun to drive on the road. Being 400kgs+ lighter and with, apparently, more steering feel and a better ride in terms of NVH etc I would be keen to know why you think that smile

I think jason61c might be factoring in the inevitable imminent world financial meltdown. I remember 2008 when people were buying performance cars at significant discounts to their pre market crash prices...

I think it looks great, one the road the 720 has real presence you spot it a mile off. Looks properly quick on that video as well but the noise for me is a bit of a let down. Watching a Huracan STO video that v10 makes my hairs stand up just listening to it, the extra few tenths to 60 doesn’t bother me.

Me, for one. Build completes on Tuesday. Collection, all being well, 9th December. Why, when I already have a 720s? So I can have it exactly the way I want it. And because buying cars is one of life's pleasures.
