RE: Spectacular Ferrari F50 for sale

I seem to remember at the time that the reviews were a little disappointing. (As if I'd care if I could have one now.)
The disappointment at the time was that Ferrari didn't let anyone review it properly. Top Gear got a scoop with JC in the F50 and Tiff in Prost's F1 car, but they didn't let any of the magazine press do a full test of one.Lukewarm reviews back in the day because the F1 obliterated it statistically, and was more special in build/execution. The F1 was also £300k more and didn’t sell 1/5 as well.
Since then there’s been a readjustment. Pretty sure Tiff reckoned he’d be quicker round the ‘ring in this than the F1, and it regularly comes out on top in Ferrari special comparisons, mostly because of its fidelity as a driver’s tool. By comparison the F1 is supposed to be less friendly and precise at the outer edges - partly because it was also conceived as a more useable road car.
Also, when you see subsequent efforts to put F1-esque powertrains on the road, it’s hard to say any have been as successful. Someone correct me if I’m wrong though, have read these need a top-end rebuild every 25k miles (not that that seems relevant to most).

Have seen 2 of these in the wild. One on the m25 and one in a dealers. Do not care for them - they might be a great drivers car but I want my dream cars to be good looking / pretty / purposeful and to my eyes this fails on all counts. Yeah it sounded great but I would want the whole package even when it’s parked in my garage.
Any cock womble that wants to come along and say I’m not a car enthusiast because I’m not debasing myself at the alter of expensive Ferraris is welcome.
And also I don’t get the super rich. You can’t take the money with you, you cannot buy more time. Use the bloody things……
Lots of rich people want to protect what they’ve got. They may have worked hard for it. Successful people often continue well passed where they need to just because they enjoy doing what they’re doing or enjoy making money. Buying something like this and ruining its value goes against all of that. Driving every mile would be like torture. Many people could get as much pleasure driving something similar without the pain. A lottery winner on the other hand would just want to buy and use it and not care. Also the rich buy these for investments and have no interest in driving them.Any cock womble that wants to come along and say I’m not a car enthusiast because I’m not debasing myself at the alter of expensive Ferraris is welcome.

There’s a guy called Nick Leventis who does or did daily his F50 taking it to Tesco and the dog out.

Give us wave Nick, how's the F50?
The F40 seemed to be the anti Ferrari. Turbocharged, cosmetically terrible and the anti 959 with almost no technology but a sublime design. The F50 returned to Ferrari normal so it was always going to be a bit meh. Siffredi and Betolucci films compared.
Saw one at a car show, bodywork opened, absolutely stunning. F40 and F50 brilliant but in different ways.

The F50 is one of the most underrated cars in history, it is an engineering masterpiece and to drive its just exquisite. F40 vs F50? Actually very different cars, I probably prefer the F40 as an experience to drive, but the F50 is better in every other way. As people have mentioned, you could have had both for around 500k in 2010!

Back in the day didn’t evo mag spend a few days with a 288, f40, f50 and an enzo and decided the f50 was the best. I’ll have to find it from my old collection…
I might be misremembering, but I thought the 288 GTO came out top in that test. Edited by davebem on Sunday 19th November 17:20
