Good question also what about the car speed limits those qualifying as dual purpose vehicles currently enjoy?

Can't believe the post above re the price of a basic Ford Ranger, we paid £21k in 2007 for a brand new top of the range Hilux Invincible auto, luckily ordered a week before Top Gear's Arctic Trucks north pole challenge, apparently the day after that was aired the phone started ringing at Toyota dealers and the discount we enjoyed wouldn't have happened.
A neighbouring farmer bought a new invincible recently and managed to get it for £36k (10% discount off the ~£33k+vat list) which isn't that far off the £33.5k you paid once you allow for inflation.

Could be a lot worse given the waiting list and the fact that the current model has a lot more tech and mandatory and expensive emissions stuff than your old mk6.

I used to live in Essex where there are a lot of these. I never saw the rear row of seats being used by humans, apart from children on a family day out.

Why should certain professions get a tax free family car? Makes sense to close the loophole.

Good buy that.
Its still the one to go for for a long trouble free life and a decent maker's back up should anything go wrong.

Yep, no real complaints about my mk8 so was happy to recommend it. 120k miles and 8 years with nothing but a set of tyres, a set of front pads, wiper blades and a headlight bulb. Really can't go wrong with the 10 year warranty.

Makes sense really, but I cant help but think this also might be shafting the people who actually need these trucks.
Yeah, but who actually needs self employed electricians, plumbers, carpenters, tilers?
Eh? Can they only drive pick-up trucks or something?

I foresee even more snazzy vans as the result of this change.

This was inevitable after the Coca Cola case relating to Kombi type vans.

There's a couple of mums at my kids' school who do the drop off / "pick up" in these, run through their husband's business as a commercial vehicle. It doesn't particularly bother me, if I was self employed I'd probably have done the same. It makes perfect sense they'd want to close that loophole though.
And now, those families will have to run 2 cars instead of one.

The person using it for business work will have little choice but to buy a single cab. And then have to buy a family car.

Thus increasing the number of cars. Because that makes perfect sense!

Good news, it'll be nice to see fewer of these turds on the road in future.

Won't it just be cheaper to pay the tax due?

Marvellous, now we will take the two Transits we have to site, rather than all in the Ranger.

I think the point being asserted was that the pickup whilst the pickup was on the company books it wasn't actually used as a work vehicle.
Have to admit, if it wasn't for my company banning them for image reasons, I would have had one too.

Where I live I'd hazard a guess that very few double cabs are used for work and are mostly tax dodges. I know of three that definitely are. Although that won't be the case for all of them. Of the pick ups I know that are genuinely used for work purposes, non are used as the main family car. The pick ups we have are owned by the organisation and not permitted for personal use.

Something with a bigger engine would generally cost more in tax wouldn't it? That seems pretty logical?

They aren't being banned, they are closing a tax dodge.

A four litre Jag with a footprint pretty much the same as my "turd" of a Hilux. Very wasteful indeed given it's catastrophic fuel consumption and relative lack of interior space.

I read JackJarvis post as the pick up was already being run as a second 'car'.
