Not seen a single one yet, but then I don't drive far these days. smile Ever since it went to twice a year in 1999, it's not been quite the big deal it used to be, IMHO.
2001. September, when 51 was issued. 1999 V prefix from August 1st.

I haven't seen any, not even a picture of one.

Then again, I don't see the appeal of the latest reg. It changes so often that whatever the current number is, will be "old" within a few months anyway. It still feels as if 23 plates are brand new, but nope, 73 has succeeded them and now 24 takes the baton... blink and it'll be 74 plates before you know it.

I'm much more interested in good, dateless plates than the current bog standard format.

Plates were changed to 6 month intervals in 1999, "T" came out in March, breaking the traditional annual plate change.

one for me, brand new mini heading in the direction of a rather large mini dealership.
Probably one of the staff given a new car to commute in to get the new plate seen on the road, it looked well.

Wont be long until everyone gets the bug and the 2024 plates are everywhere - wonder how many will be EV though , will be interesting.

I love a good plate as well - but still get that buzz when I see the new plates for whatever reason.

Reminds me of walking to school back in the day and seeing the new cars drive by.......

No, incorrect. R reg was the last full 12 month registration prefix. S reg ran from Aug 1st 1998 to only 28th Feb 1999. T reg from 1st March to 31st Aug 1999 and so on. I bought a new motorcycle in 1999, a work colleague bought a new one in the January, I waited until 1st March for the T. rolleyes

Seen quite a few around Manchester. They all seem to be EV, mainly tesla. Possibly confirmation bias as thats what I have and all that but haven't seen a new cheap car yet.

I was on a new car compund Wednesday and saw more 73 plate dealer pre reg car than 24's. One 23 plate that was being pdi'd had been taxed since June too, still had the seat covers from factory on.

Seen one, a CX-60 PHEV demonstrator at the dealers but as someone else mentioned, they had 4 pre registered 73 plates for sale with next to zero mileage

I saw an Orange Cayenne Turbo with one yesterday, which would have been a pretty good first sport; sadly about 5 minutes earlier I had seen a Renault Electric SUV thing so that gets the actual first spot for me.

That RAC list is incorrect; for a start, there wasn't an 01 series, it started with 51, presumably so that the 02, 03, 04 etc. ran in the middle of the year in question, rather than covering 3-months in each of two years, which the 51,61,71 series does.

The R-prefix was the last one covering 12-months.

My first one was a 24 plate Hyundai i10 on March 1st itself which was a nice surprise as I was driving the cat home from the vets. Interestingly though was today where I saw two of the new Transits for the first time on 24 plates and a Scania lorry with a trailer on the back. There's been a few between them, but these stood out.

Its interesting that given theres a recession on I've seen far more 24s compared to 73s over the same period.

W and X covered 2000, Y was March 2001 before the 51 plates were released.

The 02, 03, 04 etc were released in March, 52, 53, 54 were the September launches.

And in the vein of the thread, spotted my first '24' plate yesterday, a silver SEAT Arona FR. Not really looking out for the new plates tbh!

24 -reg madness!!! Even a 911 GTS.
In over 40 yrs of spotting i think this is world record today - well into double figures and probably 20 overall - and i'm someone who doesn't go out often!!
