RE: VW ID 3 finally gets 326hp GTX flagship

I have a base ID3 on contract hire, on a cheap monthly. I am so looking forward to giving it back next March.
I cannot see how this car can be any fun at all, just quicker to 60.
I think it will depreciate like a stone.
My ID3 is booked in next month for a software update, (so long ago I can't remember when I was first told it needed this). They have a huge backlog.
I was told it would take 2 days, but have been give a courtesy car for 4 days because I have been told the update could all go wrong.
I am also sick of the key losing connection to the car
My advice perhaps don't consider a flagship 326hp GTX

Pathetic. A mid-range Tesla Model 3 (not even a Performance version) does 0-62 in 4.4 seconds.
Considering the ID3 currently tops out at just over 49k and a Tesla Long Range is just under 50k You might need sectioning if the ID3 GTX seems like a value proposition.I'm not a Tesla fan boy but 390 miles WLTP and a 4.2 0 -60 makes this GTX look lame and expensive
I have a standard ID.3, I got it on a cheap lease for a few years cheap motoring. I expected it to just be a tool, and it is, but it's a surprisingly effective tool and it's gotten under my skin. Its fast, comfortable, pleasant, light cabin, no one pays it any attention and yet looks smart. The lane assist is downright dangerous but thats my only major dislike. The range is decent (I only have the 58kwh version) and is perfectly suited to my needs.
Do I think it needs more than the 200bhp of the standard car? Not really, it's pretty nippy as is. Would I like the 286 one? Yeah probably. I'd like those nicer seats and some of the interior changes on the GTX.
Its no 106 GTI, but I do think there are some small everyday wins in some of these EV's that make them far more effective than the doom sayers say.

I looked at them. I couldn't drive one, not now not ever. I don't want anything to do with that company no matter how good a range it is. But yes the point stands and you are right; the legacy manufacturers do come out looking super expensive.pb8g09 said:

So, what is it now? Too powerful, not enough pover? SUV? No, not that. To heavy? Too big? Too wide? EV? Charging stations not working? What?
They made a ok looking EV hot hatch. And, btw, all the golf gti I see around here just drone by on the straight parts of the road with some god awful exhaust. Feel? Sunday morning blast on the twisty road? It is an EV golf! Buy an Elise or something, jesus
Or take user reviews like Caratacus above who has a lower spec model to tell you the user experience is sThey made a ok looking EV hot hatch. The EV bits are OK when they're not throwing errors. It's the rest of it that's turd.

As a practical all round family car for daily use it's not that bad - if it had an engine then it would be awful, but EV drivetrains just lift a car immeasurably for me. I certainly prefer it to the 70 plate E350d I had before. It just gets on with things. I quite like its back to basics lack of cabin The EV bits are OK when they're not throwing errors. I actually quite like having one of the worst EVs out there as I am treating it all as part of a reset - the next EV I have in about 2 1/2 years time will be an interesting step on and the evolution will continue at pace - loving it!

Money, thats why!!!... When electric cars have mass adoption, they are going to pull some absolutely despicable things out of there hats... "They" are rigging the game (As usual)
Had a look at the base version when new. It just smacks of cost-cutting, everywhere you look. E.g. The fuse box hasn't been moved for RHD cars so where there should be a usable glove box, half of it is the fuse box. There was also weirdly nowhere to put your knee in the rear next to the seat back on the door side if the driver is tall - the rear door card was unnecessarily wide and intruded.
Compared to a Tesla Model 3 they have poor quality materials, bad software, poor performance, much worse packaging and are just generally very expensive for what you get. I guess you might prefer one if you need a shorter car for some reason, but I can't see why else you'd consider one.

I genuinely feel for you, but am also amused at the same time, as it doesn't surprise me at all. The word 'customer' means diddly squat these days.I cannot see how this car can be any fun at all, just quicker to 60.

Oh look, another flimsy piece-of-crap EV in a slightly nicer colour. The price will no doubt be eye-watering so they'll only be 'bought' by people who get them on a subsidised lease. They'll then depreciate almost vertically because no dealer will want to touch one at 3 years old.
Meanwhile, VW's ICE cars are awful because they're ploughing all their cash into these government-mandated rolling junk heaps. Bring on the German government bailout!
