Plenty of Mk2 Escorts with ‘Ox-Cart’ rear axles beating R5 cars on the stages here in Ireland every weekend.
Exactly, the Capri was a very successful touring car despite the leaf springs!

Very nice car - fond memories of being in one doing a handbrake turn on wet cobbles one night...

Lovely example, would change the headlights and add a narrow atlas with a lsd , but 40k is a bit high for me .

So much misinformation here. The Essex never had siamese ports, it got to 138bhp with the facelift of the Mk1. It got 148bhp with the RS3100.

This looks very nice, but really needs the facelifts GXL headlights. The seats should be recaro fishnets and steering wheel should be the RS. 180bhp with that carb is rubbish too. Nice wheels though.
Apologies! I was thinking of the "cologne" V6.
The Early 128bhp Essex heads had oval ports where the later ones 138bhp had "D" shaped ports.

Much as I love a Mark 1 Capri, my first car was a white one as well, not up for spending 40 grand on one.

a lovely example, do I see Escort RS2000 mk2 (early examples) seats in there (ala)

ow, and such mk1 at least a 2.0+ sporty version? would have been my first car when I was 18.

my best friend at the time his uncle a motorbike racer, drove mostly in the fastest Capri's and often we as kids were in those, so my first car would become a Ford Capri... (you are what you know at any point)

So up to a car dealer my dad knew (he had him as a client in insurance) and there it stood , the lovely capri.

so I stepped in, try to feel like a race driver... euh... man that bonnet was long, I could not see over it hehe at the time I was a late bloomer and only 1.65... lol, so nope, I did not feel sure (safe) enough...

so then it became a Fiat X1/9 1300 bertone as my first car, way better and great view hehe

Can't you drive?

These are too highly priced for me these days but my Grandad had a mark one in purple with a black bonnet and it was a big part of what got me into cars so I always think fondly of them.

This is a lovely looking example...

Had a MK1 Capri of the 2ltr GT version for the wife back in the day. Uprated front struts , single leaf rear springs made a big difference to the handling.
A Weber carb conversion also made a big difference to the performance and economy.
Met Bronze with black bonnet and wing tops and Rostyle wheels with 185/70 x13 tyres .
Keeping all the suspension bushes in fine fettle also makes a big difference, along with modified strut tops .
Back in the day when a weekend of spannering with some quality parts could make a big difference to your ride .

Probably a lot less than you could spend on a vintage 911 with the same credentials for transitions from road to hedgerow.

I read the article “comprehensive restoration costing the previous owner somewhere in the region of £10,000” and thought that’s cheap for a comprehensive restoration.

Then I read the listing “Subject to a comprehensive, professional, no expense spared restoration – we’re told that £10,000s have been spent on the car”.

There’s quite a difference between somewhere in the region of ten thousand and tens of thousands…

It looks great - I always loved the 3000E and 3000 GXLs. But for the purists those twin tail-pipes are just wrong! Although I loved them on both of the 2.8is I had in the 80s.

I still have a soft spot for V6 Capris, just not so much the current prices!

I had a 2l one of those, L reg, in 1980.
My dad had owned it from new.
It was pretty rubbish even back then, a rust heap.
Scrapped around 1984!

two things that's a pre face lift Capri

Wheels Capri would have suited a set of RS 4 spokes

and those seats that are not period

best seats available in period were Ford Scheel Seat fitted to the RS 2600Mk1 Capri

With a wee bit of cutting and welding, couldn’t the default rear-end problem solver, XJS IRS, be fitted to a Capri?

Classic biggrin That's pretty much the image of the Capri I have in my head.
