I had a fairly big crash in my youth which involved several charges being brought against me and several hours of police interviews. I was never locked up, why would someone just be locked up for reckless? Are you sure you have the whole story?
He wasn't locked up for the crash. He was on probation (for another matter) and was recalled back to prison. If you are on probation, any kind of arrest can get you locked up. That is the reason why I can’t not speak with him and get the whole story from him ChocolateFrog said:
Does the insurance company know he was out on probation?
What are the chances he was running from the police at the time? They seem to have caught up with him rather quickly after the crash.
I don’t think so. I don’t remember telling them. Just I remember any previous motoring convictions or accidents. What are the chances he was running from the police at the time? They seem to have caught up with him rather quickly after the crash.
He could possible have been running from them. But when the officer called me he said they found the car. So not quite sure
Reading between the lines here......
Your brother has been arrested on suspicion of something related to the crash. I would hazard a guess that if he's not hit anyone but written off your car and the Police have it and him, the offence will be driving-related or at least linked to the car. Again, reading between the lines and assuming a lot here. That may very well invalidate any claim on your insurance.
Leaving that aside for a minute, it's your policy so you need to ring your insurers and inform them. They'll tell you what they need from you and then you'll know where to go from there. If they need the details of the crash, you'll have to get them from your brother somehow.

I’ve watched enough Juliette Bravo to know that the criminal is allowed one phone call. Let’s hope he phones you.
Perhaps he is busy. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1333724...

Contact your insurance company and inform them that the named driver on your insurance has been involved in an accident in the vehicle that they insure.
Give them your brother's name and the details of the accident, which you should be able to obtain from the police. Do you have access to the vehicle? If it's been towed away or impounded then you need to give the insurance company it's location.
I'm the interim, visit your brother in chokey and get his side of the story.

Thank you. I was thinking if someone is arrested for reckless driving would that invalidate your insurance. Like a drink/drug driving charge. I don’t know when I’m be able to speak with him but I’ll contact them. This is helpful thanks Your brother has been arrested on suspicion of something related to the crash. I had it collect from the police pound yesterday because i was worried about the storage fees. Had to pay £410 just to have it released. I’ll contact my insurance.
Thank you for the non judgment and helpful advise

Just call your insurance and tell them what you know, you dont need to know everything just be honest and let them deal with whatever they have to
This. If they want any more information, they will ask. They, or you, can then contact the police, courts or prison service to find out more. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
