I had an estate 2.5T Titanium X a few years back. Loved it! Big & spacious as well as a good drive.
Bought with 146,000 miles on and I ran it to 218,000 miles when it span a big end bearing which consigned it to the scrap heap. I'd still have it now otherwise. I got about 30 mpg but I did a lot of motorway miles.
Good to know I might have another 100k miles in mine! Bought with 146,000 miles on and I ran it to 218,000 miles when it span a big end bearing which consigned it to the scrap heap. I'd still have it now otherwise. I got about 30 mpg but I did a lot of motorway miles.

If you like a niche edition old Mondeo this is definitely the time to buy one. Would I take one over an equally rare these days and pretty cheap too E90 330i though, er, no!
Looking at my saved eBay BMW 330i search, they do seem rather more expensive than this shed and pretty much all seem to be autos, which would be fine for me, but I suspect not for many here. This was about the cheapest comparable one I could find: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335375753821Not tried the 2.5T, but I have driven a few lesser Mondeos of this era and they really do handle well. Much more of a driver's car than any Audi A4 or VW Passat.
The VED would be annoying on a car of this value, but otherwise there's nothing about this not to like IMO. Quick enough to be fun, the Volvo 5 pot makes a lovely noise, the chassis is excellent, and in my experience, despite some cheap fixtures and fittings, Fords are normally fundamentally well built and reliable, and dirt cheap to look after. Another thing I love about this car is that it flies right under the radar. You won't get muppets coming onto your drive to nick it in the small hours, and you can park it anywhere and not worry about it.
Great shed!

We had a 2.0 TDI estate way back when. Absolutely massive inside and a half-decent steer. Ours has same seats as this but they were not comfortable after half an hour and the radio had white noise whenever anything plugged into the 12v.
Broke down a few times, Inc once the day after I'd bought a £500 Volvo T4 bangernomics snotter. Was amusing rescuing wife, kids and shopping in it as the 'posh' car got recovered....
Turned out to be the battery.

Shame its not a Mk4.5 as they dont look as old now. You can apply as much man maths as you like to the road tax but its still a lot given the cost of the car.
About the same as a decent lease for 1 month - not mad amount for total car ownership, irrelevant of car value - if you keep it long enough and it remains reliable. My petrol shed's VED £305 now, and its even more normal and benign than this, the car is worth £200 scrap (on a good day) but its worth more to me than its market value, it remains reliable and keeps earning me business mileage - so it keeps getting taxed.

Ford sold 250-300k annually until ~2002, but only did a third of that volume by 2010, and sales halved again by 2015.
Hence gen. 1-3 enjoyed an "everywhere you look" period, but they're all 17-30yo and a lot of them had high-mileage lives. Hence they're all but gone.
Gen. 4 were never super-conmon and again had hard fleet lives and are all 10-17 years old, so increasing rare.
Gen. 5 never sold well (60k in the first years, 20-30k later) full stop.

Many years ago I was hunting for one of these. Even test drove two. Ended up going with something else in the end, but I still liked the car. It's a typical Ford of the era - great value for money, spacious, well handling car with modern looks.
One thing I will echo from many a review / opinion I've read at the time is that it doesn't feel as fast as its stats would suggest. Car feel like it needs to be worked hard to make it go and without a remap it can even appear sluggish.

For sale in Birmingham, no thanks
I thought it was only Keighley we were supposed to be afraid of?My old E90 330i was bought from Birmingham and was one of the best used cars that I’ve ever bought.

I’ve had my estate coming up on 5 years now - bought from a PHer. By far the longest I’ve ever had a car. It’s so great.
Absolutely HUGE inside and so comfortable. And in 5 years it’s literally never had anything go wrong other than a headlight which filled with water and I replaced for about £150.
A mechanic friend of mine gave it a full health check last month and said only an exhaust back box may be in order in the next 12 months. Fantastic thing.
Just crossed 100k miles and I’ll change only when something absolutely terminal occurs. It’s only worth about maybe £2500 and what on earth would that get me as a replacement?!
Tax and fuel (24mpg is normal) are a bit of a bd though but mine doesn’t do many miles.
I like mine which is in non-sport spec with no visible exhausts at the back;
