The absence of a giant screen instead of a binnacle and the presence of a V8 suggests something HAS fundamentally changed; The revolt against the DIE/ESA/Global warming nonsense control, which appears to be collapsing now? Back to what the market/shareholders demand and not what the Globalist Parasites demand? Dunno, but it feels as if it might be significant.
lol, wishful thinking… obvious answer is it’s based on an M8 chassis and there’s no electric version. It’s a farewell to ICE than a hello.

Looks heavy!
indeed, heavy and big/fat?
It looks like its got too much metal on it for the car, if that makes any sense? Looks like like they designed and went it "Try and keep it the same size but make it bigger,"

The only thing I would say is that unlike a lot of these concept cars, the interior looks almost production ready which bodes well for anyone thinking about putting their name on the inevitable waiting list.

As far as a concept car goes it seems quite tame. Interior looks straight out of a production car.

Front end looks like a big improvement over recent efforts, but links to the Z8 which was a smaller and more glamorous car are a bit tenuous.

BMW has struggled in this segment since the original 8 series. Honestly would rather see them put that recent Touring concept in to production than produce another 8 series.

I bet it would do better commercially as well.

Now that is nice and I hate most modern BMWs.
Looks very like a Ferrari FF (to me at least) but that's no bad thing.
I always thought that carrying the FF/Purosangue concept of an AWD 2+2 GT into a price bracket lower is a good idea and would tempt a a lot of folk out of their performance SUVs.

PS. I agree about the interior. A concept car should have a bold interior freed from the shackles of mass production. Instead they stick a long iPad to the dash just like all their other cars.

Why can't BMW use this kind of styling for their normal cars?

Because their global sales will drop.
Your and my tastes aren't the same as the people actually buying their cars in huge numbers, namely China.
China buys six times as many new BMWs as we do.

That looks fantastic. It’s good to see that, after all the pig ugly abominations of recent years, BMW is still capable of designing elegant, desirable cars with understated good looks. More of this, please.

It looks a bit better than most of what BMW are currently selling, but I much prefer the Touring concept.

Although maybe that's because I have a Z4 Coupe!

I think its the best-looking current BMW assuming production. Of course the Z8 ( which I once drove) and the 507 were special, but I don't see much resemblance here at all. It looks good in the current context.

Surprised about the number of people criticising how this looks.

I guess a lot of people think knee-jerk cynicism makes them look clever.

Compared to a substantial number of modern cars, let alone the utter, rank cack that BMW churn out now, this thing looks completely wonderful.

Looks awesome and has a V8?

May as well have produced the concept with a manual gearbox for all the likelihood this will get built.

So they're profiling a better looking 8 series.

I don't know, but to me this appears uninspired at best (I felt that about the Z8, too) but mostly plump or even just plain ugly and not well proportioned. Seems as if it cannot decide between a muscle car shape, a supercar or a Grand Tourer. Inside, it's a pimped up 2010 BMW interior and dash. All in all pretty good ... but for a concept?

I don't think BMW can really impress anyone with this. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot that it has gazillions of horsepower that nobody can ever use... just like any other supercar these days... Meh.

Apart from the 70's bathroom interior, really like it, sharp in a sort of retro way. Knock off two cylinders, shorten it, push the haunches back, add a roof section & boot lid...they could make an actual replacement for the Z4M Coupe which, after all this time they have not managed.

No revolting, gopping grille on the front and no row of iPads masquerading as a dashboard. I think BMW might be on to something here. If these sort of features manage to filter through into the real world then there’s a chance that my wife’s 2016 435d might get replaced with another BMW. That’s been looking increasing unlikely for the last few years.

Seems to me to be using somewhat belatedly, design ideas from the Lexus LC500.

That’s much nicer.

The one saving grace is that the grilles are sensible! laugh

While I really like the cleanesss of the design - as someone else said, a real absence of piano/faux carbon/metal-effect, in and out - there is something a bit off with the proportions that really drives the impression of excess volume.

Maybe there's too much flank area, or the glasshouse is too small, raked/tumblehomed (usually a good thing) - both of which create the effect of, for lack of decent analogy, a mattress with a bubble canopy.
