Thank you Twincam!!!

I actually owned one of those Avon XJ's and I'll try to find a pic of it before the thread dies.

They were the roof tailgate and rear pillars from a Renault 5 grafted onto the XJ body, fortunately better finished than you might expect.

Mine was a '6' but most were 12's and I repainted it Primrose instead of the original Cotswold yellow. I agree that the styling was something of an acquired taste but certainly an eyecatching car.

Nobody has mentioned the original estate made by a Belgian company I think, based on the 5 series BMW platform. I have seen only one of these and I'd guess it was a Merc tailgate grafted on.

I've always had a 'soft spot' for these, shame they rusted out. The supercharged 2ltr Volumex version were awesome for thier time.

There was however a one-off Mulsanne Turbo estate with a 4x4 drivetrain built for the Sultan of Brunei. I actually saw it once, mixing with ordinary traffic on a drizzly day on the Fulham Palace Road - one of the most bizzare sights I've ever seen. What is, essentially, a concept car stuck behind a dustbin lorry, covered in road grime.

360,

First up I love the website and being a complete sado I have looked through pretty much all of the photos on it, some great stuff. Once the restoration of my Deauville is complete it will be interesting to see what sort of plate can be dug out to do her justice

On the estate front Alessandro DeTomaso had a one off estate version of the Deauville commissioned for Mrs DeTomaso to carry her Afghan hounds around in and sat in the factory reception for many years and I think might still be on of the few cars remaining there. I just can't find a b----- picture of the thing

Bob
Thanks for the nice comments. The website is getting so many hits now, that I am thinking about expanding it to include a forum and news pages connected to cherished numbers. I would appreciate comments from anyone, before I throw a lot of money at it.
Back on topic, I recently bumped into a guy filling up a Deuville in a local petrol station.
It turns out that he lives local to me, although I have never seen the car before.
It is a silver LHD example which he claims to have bought as a runner for just £2500. A bit rough around the edges, but nevertheless, a lot more interesting than an XJ6.
The Deuville Estate is on the net somewhere, because I remember seeing a pic.
Many thanks again.

360,

I spent that on a new stainless steel exhaust

Get a separate thread going as I’m sure plenty of the PH collective would chip in with some worthwhile comments. To my mind the thread on Carrera Sport days over on the Ferrari / Lambo forum generated enough for a rather interesting book anyway.

Here’s one from the late great Bob Jankel’s Panther Westwinds, another Daytona Estate!

That was a production car in Germany, they just never made a RHD version.

More desireable than the saloon IMHO.
