Class I would agree, but the Porsche Turbo isnt exactly IMO a looker though. Both companies seem to be a bit misguided with wheels as well. Thinking about it though, these points would be the last thing on my mind if I was given the keys to them.[AJ] said:
It looks a great car and I'm very impressed with the bang for buck. I'd still rather have a 911 Turbo though! By the time the GTR goes on sale here in the UK, I'm sure the facelift Turbo with its dual clutch and engine changes will bring it back on top performance wise too.
Ok, but would you rather have a base 997 or a GTR?A used GTR or a new Cayman?

But then you aren't paying extra for what are basically poser features in the Nissan either. I suppose styling and class may matter in the golf club car park, but hurtling down a quiet B road they don't really count for much.dkennedyvxt said:

Good read- thanks.
Im still skeptical about the nurby times. They "think" it will be as fast as the new 997 GT2? Sure...
nice car though and at that price, very impressive.
I'm pretty sure i saw a video of ofe one the fast laps and the time was as quoted.....awesome piece of kit and for £60k...mmmmmmm Im still skeptical about the nurby times. They "think" it will be as fast as the new 997 GT2? Sure...

the tuning whole tuning thing sounds like utter boswellox...the internet myth that skylines are "detuned" and can produce 1000hp from the factory with a bitof screwdriver work is a bit Fast and the Furious.
Sure skylines can make big power. But they have NEVER been cheap to tune!! Big power skylines have aftermarket everything including turbos.
Something in the ECU to stop tuning...yeah right. Thats like the "un-pirateable" media formats that get cracked in about 2 hours. Its possible that the alloy block isnt as strong as the RB26 lump, but big power on alloy blocks isnt exactly new. Lets see what the tuners do, not what Nissan's PR agency say they won't be able to do.
TBH its probably just spin from Nissans marketing department trying to distance the car from the "tuner" culture so as to attract Porsche-driver money for a £60k car.

I reckon independent mags will never manage to get an R35 GTR around the Nurburgring in anything like the time Nissan claim. Nissan have an extensive history of doctoring ring times by sending MASSIVELY tuned examples around and claiming they're stock. One of the GTR-R33 models was nearly all carbon and packing about 180bhp more than stock.
I'd say SportAuto's time is a little more realistic.
1780kg and 480bhp to get a ~7:36? Yeah right.

Totally agree with everything you said.
Can't wait to sample a new GTR and I think changing the engine for a much bigger capacity V8 is a good thing. Everyone raves about the RB26 engine and in isolation its great... but back to back with a Porsche Turbo lump they feel a bit gutless in my opinion unless you are thrashing the nuts off it...
I have a dyno proven 552bhp R34 GTR and a DMS 996 Turbo of around the same or less... when I drive them back to back and the Porsche feels MILES faster... as its sooo much more Grunty!
I reckon the GTR with this new bigger capacity engine and awesome chassis is going to be amazing as everyone who drives it says!
Going to be very hard to resist! What do you guys think the residuals will be like? It seems mad value for money.... but mad money to pay for a Nissan at the same time!
