the worst you would get is 60 quid and 3 points, the toll road would loose hundreds of thousands if they try a trick like that
Well and the increase on your insurance premium for the next 5 years until the points clear.

Still to some £ doesnt really matter that much ?

I'm happy to pay £4.50 to forget that Birmingham exists!

I always use it if I'm traveling that way. It'd only have to save me fifteen minutes or something to be easily worth five quid. Even if you don't speed on it it's still a damn slight quicker than the alternatives given the usual level of traffic around there.

I have no idea if they can use the tickets to convict someone for speeding though.

I wont use it on principal. It technically could have saved me lots of time but I begrudge paying to use it
Why on principle? There is an alternative, so at least you have the choice. The problem with the concept of "road charging" is that you have no realistic alternative. The M6 Toll is different in that respect.

I've noticed everytime I've driven down the M6, the overhead signs seem to always be displaying a message saying "Congestion ahead on M6, Toll road clear." so far I've always ignored them and carried onto the M6 to find no congestion. It Looks like they are trying to get more business with false sign messages!

Having never used the Toll road I'm curious to know what the traffic levels are like? Pretty low I guess if they are struggling.

You're right, I do have a choice. But that choice is influenced in a number of ways. I dont want to pay extra for a road that I didnt want. And on top of that, I dont want to be coerced into using it through unclear road markings, incorrect messages about time delays on the normal M6, the bait of it being cheap then putting the price up.

I agree that if the whole of the M6 was a toll then it'd be a different argument, but sticking in a road that only those with money can afford to use and having the rest of them snarled up in traffic hasnt addressed the problems of the original M6.

Using it once a year, most people wouldnt have a problem with, and happily tell those at their destination about how much time they saved by using this clear well surfaced toll road, but try it when you're doing 20k pa around the W Mids it's a different price point and outlook on it.

I've always driven up n down the M6 toll, yeah I disagree with it in principle but when trekking down from Scotland to Surrey/London in the early hours of the morning you can't beat 120 Leptons and deserted roads. IIRC it also costs a lot less at night?? Don't think I've ever paid 4.50 for it.

Fair enough. I find it a no-brainer as it's so much faster, and more than pays for itself in the time saved.

Those toll booths are great for a drag racing start when there is a big convoy of you hehe
+1 It just seems to be a race on that road every time my dad drives on it every single person seems to be speeding even OAP's in their micra's seem to be doing 90mph+ lol. I must say the start of toll boths are amazing as is basically Santa pod but with slightly less exotic machinery. smile

No there aren't. The main 'toll plazas' are at the north of the northbound and the south of the southbound then there are points on every exit. So if you get off part way you go through one at the exit if you don't get off part way you go through one at the end. But either way you only go through one of them.
What happens if you join part way along though - isn't there a reduced rate, or does that only apply if you're leaving the toll road early?

Regarding speed - I was a conscientious objector for some time, but I now use it a couple of times per month in each direction. I would say it's unusual NOT to see an unmarked police car (usually a Volvo S60) on the hard shoulder having stopped someone.
