[biased] Fiat Coupe Turbo [/biased]

Use mine for a bit of commuting and ferrying the kids around when the missus has the estate, got it just over a year ago, been totally reliable, £2k. Leaves the OP £2k to spend on wine, women (not the ex) and song!

Correct answer, the thread can now be closed.
What about the bills? Wont a 944 cost you the same again every year at that age?
Only if you take it to a porsche dealership for work.
Exactly! 944's are an easy DIY proposition, and can be run tolerably cheaply if you know what you are doing.

Have a look at my profile for a detailed breakdown of the costs of running an S2 for about 14k miles a year.

I recently made the shock discovery that you can get an M3 for that sort of money now!

Well sorted 328 might be a better bet though, or even an early 330.

If you want something a bit more sideways, how about a mkiv Supra Turbo.

Nice - probably wont break down as much as a fiat as well

Recently divorced, ex has the car but havent sorted finances out yet. therefore i want to buy a car for £2-4k but it needs to be something a bit speedy/stylish/cool...

Needs to have 4 seats but the back ones dont have to be huge - just to fit a 4 and 6 yr old.

Any ideas???

A well-maintained 944 S2 won't necessarily cost a fortune in professional upkeep. There are lots of competent and reasonably-priced independent garages out there. Don't be afraid of high mileages either if the car has is in good fettle, as S2s are built stronger than most.

For the money, very little comes close in terms of speedy/stylish and especially cool.

However, you should bring your kids to the test drive. The back seats are ideally suited to 7-11 year-olds however may be just a little too big for smaller children, and as been pointed out, there are very few car seats that will fit.

I've just bought an E46 330i M Sport 4 door for 4.5k, there's a few about at that price, but as you move down engine sizes a little they'll fit into your budget.
