I have regular use of a Renault Kangoo van and the corrosion is shocking.

My mother had a Fiesta that just disintegrated.

E36 BMW's suffer a fair bit of rot on the arches.

Did they not have the correct panels?

Merc's and BMW E36//E39/E46 seem to have a number of problems with rust.

MX5's sometimes on the rear arches too smile

The majority of ford pumas have arch problems - they forgot to rustproof them (the old man had his inspected and properly sealed)

The ones I have spotted are always around the fuel cap area.

Jaguar XK8s are failing on front floor pans and inner sills.
X types should be failing too, but thats just personal opinion.
As an owner of an old X-Type, I will have to disagree with you sir.

As a regular on various Jaguar/X-Type forums, rust is never mentioned as a problem.

A customer recently had to scrap
an 03 ford ka because remedial work for rust made it uneconomical for him to put a fresh mot on it(I sold him a golf)Pumas always rust around the rear wheel arches, with mondeos and focuses it is mainly door bottoms.I recently took a 98 e class that was so rusty it was a lost cause-I sold it in the trade for £600

i saw a nice blue fiesta today, the one 2 models ago, and the sporty one, i cant remember the model but the one with the same chassis as a puma? Anyway it was nice and subtly modded so i went over for a peek. On closer inspection it was riddled with rust! both rear arches.

Have a glance under the sills, at the flange where the sills meet the floorpan. Can be quite revealing on KAs less than 5 years old. And it doesn't stop there. (The rust around the filler cap is usually on older ones - and owners often scrap 'em as this repair is complicated.)

There have been a few articles in Car Mechanics about indifferent protection from the elements on metal parts under smaller Fords this millenium.

Car Mechanics have currently got their teeth into the MB problems. It makes troubling reading frown . MB are apparently repairing corrosion to cars up to ten years old (from memory) with proportionate contributions from owners (eg car is 8 years old, owner pays 80%), it seems. My numbers may well be out in terms of years (am reporting this from memory, the articles are in the loft), but some support is there from MB!
