Chances are that they're the owner's initials, or in some way the letter/words relate to them.

1 LEU is a dateless number one plate - considered the best you can buy.
My name is Lloyd so L101YDS is close to Lloyds. L10YDS was £100k and he wouldn't accept my offer of tens of thousands so I went with L101YDS instead.
10JH is a cracking plate as JH are the most popular initials in the land.
You either get plates or you don't
I do want t13 vom though as in the mirror it would read move it but it's on a mini and I think they bought it for the same reason

They do at my local DVLA - so you have to have MOT and tax or trade plates, or a vehicle trailer
I've got TWW1W, my dad's got TWW2W.
TWW were my Grandpa's initials. He died in 1980, shortly before my impending presence was announced.
On the 1st of August 1980, the W-suffix registrations were released. My dad was finance manager of a chain of dealerships in Yorkshire at the time, and they had our two plates allocated to two new cars.
He managed to transfer them, and kept them on retention until he had cars new enough to put them on. From them, he always had TWW2W on his car, and my Granny had TWW1W on hers.
My Granny died in 2001, and we transferred the plate onto my car. For me, it's a way of remembering both of them.

I've always been into private plates, turned into a bit of an obsession but I've sold quite a lot of them recently and cut the collection down to size.
Personal plates I own which I'll never sell are M12 SKW, bought on my 17th birthday (my initials), then W7NNS (surname). More recently I've bought WYN1V. Used to own 15 W - was as close to 1 SW as I could get at the time but sold it last year to fund part of a house extention.
I like cheeky, "in yer face" plates as well and own the following; O P55 OFF, R9NDY, HU51LES & X 124TED. Looking to sell these in the near future...
A couple of others I have are S60RES (SCORES) & RE08ULL - which is as close to REDBULL as you can get. I'm just sitting on them until the right buyer comes along with a decent offer.

I've had V10 WOO! on retention for a few years now. The £75 to renew the plate every year just drives me to work harder to get that V10 engined car. With a bit of luck I shouldn't have to renew it next year as it will be on a car.
Errr... They're ripping you off. It's only £25 And here's a nice cheap V10 for it to go on
