Spending that sort of cash on a car to do 2000 miles per year sounds like madness to me. There are plenty of nice looking old Audis, Volvos etc that would to that job with ease if you must have the prestige badge.

Losing that sort of money in depreciation for so little benefit is pointless IMO.

or rather than my carefully planned trickery. Suggest a Kia and when she says no ask her if she has ever actually seen one other than driving past it. When she inevitably says no take her to look at one. She will soon see they are solid bang for your buck cars.
WTF? Do you own KIA's shares or something?biggrin

Unless I can see some 'value' (to me) in getting her another car, then I don't see the point in changing.. however, I do quite fancy a Discovery / Defender as a weekend 'toy' and we could do with a bigger family car too as I can't change mine for another 2 years
I would be LIVID if my OH tried to have any bearing on my car choices, just as I'm sure he wouldn't like it if I had any bearing on his, though he did agree with my way of thinking on one thing, a cheapo Interceptor was a silly idea!

Does annoy me when I see so many men who seem to "choose" their wives cars. Fair enough if it's there choice and perhaps I'm a bit strange anyway, so perhaps you should all ignore me wink

Mate was in the same situation with wifey and low miles a year in a car you had to pay through the nose for MoT, tax, insurance etc. So sold it and she simply rings for a taxi every time now.

With the money saved, he runs a single "proper" car.

This XC90 looks a steal at £9.995 with 62,000 miles and at only 7 years old.

I wouldn't say a steal, but if she fancies taking it to 92k over the next 15 years it wouldn't seem a bad investment.

Sounds more likely that in 18 months it won't fit her latest 'needs' though. I sympathise; my wife would have us in financial ruins inside 3 months if she was let loose too!

Spend 5k on a Passat Estate for 2k miles a year then spend 5k on a nice 2 seater convertible.

If he's paying for it I reckon it's fair enough that he's got some bearing on it!

Yes but it's not her car it's their car, and by the sound of it, it's his money, she's lucky that he's provided a car for her convenience at all for 2k a year. 2k miles a year be cheaper to just get taxis.

Yes, this is one of the actual cars that we have discussed - the Landmark is a good spec with leather etc as standard.

I do about 30-40k per year in my car so I need a diesel. As our 2nd car does such a low mileage, it might be worth considering the V8 Discovery as MPG won't be such an issue and they tend to be cheaper to buy too. Any thoughts?

I completely agree, we have not been told who is spending the money here though? Never assume anything.
