I'm quite surprised no-one makes a folding car transport trailer. Maybe you just couldn't make it strong enough.

A couple manufacturers do but they're not/weren't the cheapest of things. I've not seen a commercial one in a good few years (10+) but seem to remember them being made in Germany. My uncle made a couple over the years (single and twin axle) with beaver tails that fold after the rear axle to cut 5-6ft from the length - good for storage and for running empty.
