say what you like about the yanks... but fiat needs to get this right, they are banking their future on the American market.

Yes, but it looks like they want to do it as an inside job by taking control of an established Yank brand, then applying euro standards of build quality and design

Given Fiat's fairly spectacular return from the brink, (weren't they losing 2 million Euro a day?), I'd say they have a pretty good chance. After all, they have halo brands that they can exploit and with the current climate of austerity, perhaps Yanks will finally realise that "small-block" doesn't mean something slightly under 5 litres

I'd be happier with a small block V6 in the back.
Bring back the fun days of Fiat -.-

Is it me or have they taken those rear bumper lights from a Mini?

As an owner of a 500 and a Mopar 6.1 Hemi I think they should definitely keep the two apart.

I think in some states the 500 will sell well if only for it's cutesy retro styling, such as California etc. We were in NYC over Christmas and New Year and this was painted on the wall outside of our hotel and highly illuminated............................

Can't quite see it being a hit in and around NYC to be honest, even though the place is awash with hybrid type cars! (I did see a classic Range Rover and a NAS spec Defender there though which was pleasing!)

I think there was a limited edition matt black 500 launched over here. I think it was called the Black Jack.

It looks ok but give the Americans the Abarth rather than just a tarted up version of the car.

Wow!
You Eurotrash are really getting nasty toward Americans.
What brought that on?
Somebody keyed your Renault Clio?
Somebody beat you up in another pub fight?
Another Rolls Royce engine tried to knock an Airbus down with it's superior engineering?
Can't find a job?
Maybe when you guys get that (inferiority) chip off your shoulder, more Americans will give you some respect.
But right now, you don't deserve any and you certainly won't get any from me..
You're just annoying third world punks.
Cheers for now!

interesting, i hope they do well, but i suspect chrysler will always be number 3 after ford and GM!

BTW - on a light hearted note - there it is - just at the bottom of the picture - the haute cuisine vendors!

American here, and it IS a bad idea.

The middle-America focus group went like this: "Which name do you recognize, Abarth or Mopar?"

Look for a new concept car do debut in Europe this spring, the Chrysler 300 Abarth.

...which might not be so bad...hmmm.

and Alpina, y'might want to tone it down a bit. You're sounding awfully troll-like.

What a stupid idea! Any American who is tempted to buy a Fiat 500 will be buying it for it's retro heritage and Italian iconism, the sort of person who probably hates Mopar Chryslers. What's wrong with the Abarth and Ferrari editions? What next a Dodge Avenger Abarth with a double bubble roof?
Exactly.

This is ludicrous, is it a joke?

I think it'll go down a storm, i lived in canada for a year and a half and know a few yanks, and theyre sick of what they have, they know we get a better deal. They hate that you cant buy people carriers with 2litre diesels and manual boxes, i had a canadian friend visit the uk and i borrowed my dads car, loved the current shape laguna, with its 45mpg, comfortable yet euro suspension, decent interior space and quality and 1.5litre diesel engine. They love the new fiesta, they hate that they dont get the good focus we get (though that changes this year)

The idiots on this thread (pistonheads really is one of the stupidest places on the planet sometimes) dont recognise that corolla/camry sized cars are the biggest sellers over their (aside from trucks, which is fair enough, because they actually need them, and i'd own one in a flash if i lived their - and god knows why we dont have suv style pickup trucks - f150 with that jag diesel v6, perfect for the uk - and my outdoors lifestyle, and really no bigger than a range rover). If our medieval cities were better laid out, im sure we'd all be using bigger cars.

I predict fiat will be as big as vw in the us in a few years, especially if they price well.

What I enjoy most about ph is the idiotic generalisations, those that make them are just as fking stupid as the people they are basing them on. The mopar is another addition of what will be many. I don't see why its even news to be honest.

Wow, I was pissed at some of the "anti-American" posts, but then I saw gixxer's and realised why the rest of the world hates us so much. Shame, as the few "bad apples" spoil the whole bunch in the eyes of the world.

Anyway, I'm American and I've loved the new 500 since I heard of its launch in 2007. Say what you will about the American market, but I believe they'll sell by the boatload here. The American market is largely responsible for the success of the other "retro-inspired" compacts, the New Beetle and the new MINI. In addition, the runaway success of the Smart has proven the "Americans don't buy small cars" notion is a complete myth.

Moreover, most of the Americans I know are disappointed that we don't get all the amazing hot hatches and frugal diesels that you guys get.

As far as this concept, I like the way it looks, but any MoPar version should be about performance, not looks! They should've started with the Abarth EsseEsse as a base, instead.

Why people on this forum always get so hostile when there's news from either America or China? But not India... That really says a lot about this country.

As for the Mopar 500, if they can spend less money to increase just a little bit of its sales figure. Then, I would say good luck to them. I personally wouldn't buy one. But I'm no American...

MOPAR? More like mop and bucket.. that car is horrid..

The standard Fiat 500 is a nice litte girly car nothing more nothing less. even the Abarth is a fast little hatch but is more a marketing tool than a car..

This however is just crap.. sorry but it is, the term MOPAR should not be used in the same breath as a car like this..
