they are RH thread, but FFFing tight.

use a 6 sided socket else you risk rounding the bolt, and as said, use new bolts when re-fitting.

I would say use a good quality socket too. Im my experience Snap-on are very good, and if you ever see a Snap-On van operating in your area you can flag the driver down and buy from him, and he will sell individual sockets.

The thing is, you're only going to get the one chance at this. If one of those bolts rounds off, you've got a lot more trouble on your hands, so it's vital that whatever socket you use, it fits well and it's good quality.

Having said that, Halfords professional are pretty good. Maybe a new socket just for this is job is what's needed.

Go to Halfords and buy one of these breaker bars and the corresponding impact socket (they sell them individually for around £3) and lean on it! Don't be scared of bending or breaking the bar as Halfords have an excellent returns policy...

Cheers for all the help guys, i'll give it another go shortly, a family member is going to lend me one or two bits and pieces and i've had it confirmed its a normal thread.

As long as they dont snap, thats all that matters! biggrin
