Better 16k on polo than 15 k on a sty fiesta that tries to be a polo without success

Op , 16k is a silly amount to spend in any supermini , that car will be worth 10k in 1 month
If you can find me a month old example for £10k please let me know, and I will but it.
Might be slightly older and is marginally more than 10k, but is a fair reflection of the depreciation sentiment, although it might be older than a month old may I present

i was in the vw dealers yesterday getting my 18 mth old scirocco serviced and noticed the price of new vw's has gone crazy!!!!! 26k for a diesel golf??

mad.

I know vw are seen as a premium brand but you can get so much more for your cash elsewhere. For example the girlfriend has been sorting out a deal on a brand new nissan juke, this is the 1.6 turbo model (190hp) 4wd and cvt gearbox, full leather, sat nav, revesing camera, metallic paint, etc etc £17180. Yes i know vw's image is better and the interior plastics are nicer, but i recon if vw did an equivalent car it would be at least 10k more.

OP would this tickle your wife's fancy at all? Sounds like a decent deal.

I bought a Polo for my mother last February. It was a diesel model - maybe that's a cheaper model. Got it for £10500 plus her old 03 Citroen Picasso in p/ex.

Don't know how much prices have changed since then, and I can't remember what the exact price was, but I think I got about a £2500 discount. They had to make some phone calls to get it OK'd (don't know to whom).

It may have helped that mum wasn't fixed on a Polo, and that we'd already got offers on a couple of other small cars, and that we were cash buyers.

I just kept politely saying that their offers weren't good enough. The first sales person (a very professional lady) got her manager, he offered more, I suggested a price I was prepared to pay, and he went away to make a phone call. When he came back, he said it was OK.

This was at the VW garage in Kidlington, just outside Oxford.

the 1.2 tsi is the warm hatch model below the gti. 105 brake, 0-60 in 9.7 and 53 combined mpg.

£16.5k for a Polo is staggering. I've never felt so out of touch with the world..!

Point taken on used price, and I am also lookimg for a nearly new example. This one is cheap because of the colour I suspect. The new price I mentioned include upgraded wheels and parking sensors.

Parking sensors on a supermini?!?! WTF is the world coming to when people can't park tiny cars without it beeping at them!

Anyway, search classifieds here and AE, often there are pre-reg examples or <1 year old examples. There are also other sources other than main dealers, also try other dealers in the country, many will order/deliver the car to you.

What does '£11,983 Gross VAT Qualifying' mean on the used TSi? Is there VAT to be added to the listed price?

AFAIK it means that they will pay VAT and if you are buying it for a business then you can reclaim the VAT.

It's for his wife.

Mine has trouble parking the iron back in the cupboard.

That's why we have parking on the driving test, if they can't park a small car they should re-take their test! winkbiggrin It's one of the fundamental parts of driving (we have to do it in some form at the end of every journey).

I can sort of understand it in a large car with poor visibility but not in a supermini.

Out of all the cars I have both owned and driven the only one that had parking sensors was a Discovery 3 that I had on loan from work for a week, and I found them more an annoyance than anything.

Unfortunately, that's where new superminis are heading what with their bloated dimensions and chunky a-pillars.
