A Day With A Hertz 'Vette
Discussion
Great write up. I hired a standard, red C6 from Hertz a couple of years ago in Florida. Like you, I'll never forget that feeling the first time you say to yourself 'Ok, let's see what it's got' and bury your right foot. Amazing sound.
I remember one night I volunteered to go out and get pizza for everyone. I was gone 2 hours

Just had a quick look at the Hertz site for a theoretical week with a Mustang drop top. Quoted me c.£380 for a week with unlimited mileage. Is that right?! Sadly the Corvette didn't have any prices on it.
Double it when taking into account insurance (I have found). edo said:
Top stuff.
My wife and I hired the same car (well not the exact same car!), and went Las Vegas>Death Valley>Yosemite>Nappa>San Fran.
This is exactly what I did in October. Met up with a mate, and we also booked a Camaro at the same time. My wife and I hired the same car (well not the exact same car!), and went Las Vegas>Death Valley>Yosemite>Nappa>San Fran.
Funny moment when we were plundering our way east of Vegas onto one of the routes to the Grand Canyon, and had the top down. Then specks of rain hit the windscreen. Then the heavens opened. I had the interior completely soaked. Friend in Camaro just laughed and carried on whilst I was begging for a layby or somewhere I could stop and put the hood up. When it dried out, we pulled up with the maps by some desolate shacks. Being childish I couldn't resist some simple figure of eight spins on the dusty track. I didn't realise the area was inhabited when some long haired greaseball, jumped out of his corrugated iron hut and screamed at us to 'GIT GONE BOYS GODDDAAMMMM JESUS H CHRIST!!!"
He was obviously unhappy at having his house peppered by small stones, and we wisely moved on as he stormed back in (presumably to look for a Winchester).
The ZHZ had, as I remember a number of stages of animalistic urge. A really astonishing, simplistic, machine. But one I genuinely was sad to leave behind.
Our journey actually started in Tucson, so it was a real Southwestern road trip, and for me Death Valley the outstanding experience.
I'll put some pictures up when I get some time (of the cars).
That looks ace, thanks for the write up. One question, I don't suppose you had a look at the boot? Does it have much space, it was the only thing that made me go for the Mustang last time. I really want to drive the PCH again in a vette, but need to know I can get at least one case in the boot.
Fond memories of the yellow Corvette convertible we rented in Vegas a few years back.
Head up display, black interior, could not miss it. Wife HATED it when she saw it but after Vegas-Hoover Dam-Flagstaff-Route 66-Vegas she loved it.
After dropping her back at the hotel, mate jumps in and more driving - got home at some shocking time in the morning.
I would buy one in a second and often thought about it but I think the R129 is better value here in the UK.
The locals loved it and thought it was great that a tourist actually went out and sought a car from the good ol US of A! Needless to say, full bore departures were the order of the day to appease the gathering masses!
