If it makes more money for Porsche, which in turn enables them to continue making cars like the GT3 RS, then go for it.
I remember reading somewhere that Porsche were the most profitable car maker in the world per unit. Their biggest sellers being the 911 range, followed by the Cayenne. So as a manufacturer they really don't need to make other cars, but as a business, they know what ever they make, it'll sell & make them a lot of money. It's a pitty that brand image & lifestyle is now their aim, rather than just the enthusiast. At least Lotus wont ever turn that way......i hope!I'm guessing this car will start at 45k and go north from there, the people who think that it will be a reps car are pretty wide of the mark. Reps don't get 45k to spend on a car.
But this re badging of cars isn't great news really, but as far as I'm aware they only do that on one model the Cayenne, and having owned a Touareg and done a back to back test against a Cayenne (first generation) they really were chalk and cheese.
So what ever the Porsche guys do to them they do it well.

This is a good thing, as its an entry route for fairly well-off customers to leave bmw, merc etc and to become a lifelong Porsche buyer.
Think of the it as the BMW 1 or 3 series to Porsche. BMW get many lifelong customers starting at the bottom of the range and (hopefully) paying more each time to move up the chain.
So you want a GT3? but need a business/family car and you haven't got the dough. This is your ticket in, and hopefully for Porsche you are then much more likely to rave to others about their cars, and hopefully continue to buy their cars.
This will in turn mean more 911's are sold, leading the way to more expensive and focused models, and halo cars... Which is a good thing.

Ah yes, but it gave us the 993's rear axle...
The person that thought this up should be sectioned...

Clock the NSU Ro80 sourced back doors (with a bit of help from an angle grinder...)
Yet i'd love to see the Cayman Shooting brake happen...

There was a 944 shooting brake in the late 80s that was rather nice too.![](http://thumbsnap.com/sc/dBYtdC42.jpg)
