Here you go Dicky.

Forgot this was here. This is Hodnet in Shropshire, the village was bypassed ten years ago or more ( can’t remember now ) I thought this was long gone.

Hawkestone Moto Cross track is near so hopefully they catch some passing traffic from that.

I don’t know if the pumps work, I will have a look this weekend if I have time and remember.
Don't worry Mike, we'll keep reminding you.

I went past this one the other week in Willingham, but didn't have time to stop for a picture. It didn't turn up in a search of the thread, so maybe we've not had it before ? Or maybe PH search is crap smile

Marvellous. I think you're right it's a Humer Unbeam virgin. There's a brief history on Twitter.

Five books smile The UK by region.

Taking pictures at an abandoned filling station on the way to Barry in South Wales, a car stopped, a chap got out and walked towards me. I stopped taking pictures and gave him one of my few bits of Welsh, "Bore da." "Bore da," he replied. "Are from the developers?" "No, I'm interested in petrol stations." He just said, "Huh," walked back to his car and drove away.

That reminds me... I used to do some work supplying Murco with grocery products about 17 years ago and there was a chap who worked for them who was very much into the history of filling stations and the associated paraphernalia so I know all about the Murco logo. I'll drop him a line on LinkedIn and recommend your books!
Marvelous, thanks for that. Both SUPER Author and I - SUPER Contributor smile - think there may be some sort of follow up to the books to capture just these sort of gems. The knowledge will just vanish if we don't get it written down.

I see the publishers have defied unilateral lockdowns and border closures to introduce Super - Wales.

Marvellous.

Twas Pritchard & Sons in Llandrindod Wells that inspired Humer Unbeam in the first place.

Spilsby in Lincolnshire. I like to see shops with petrol pumps, as opposed to petrol stations with shops.

That's a fine line there, Dicky.

No, no, no. A shop with petrol pumps is trying to provide an all-round service but a petrol station with a shop is very often just a catchpenny.

There will be correspondence.

I'm sure there will.

I cant remember if Ive already posted any of the local ones...

https://picturestocktonarchive.com/2012/10/05/bill... - now a small bungalow on site as far as I remember. The building at right is now a micropub.

https://picturestocktonarchive.com/2012/09/24/impe... is now a generic filling station, none of the splendour of that old building (a bit before my time)

https://picturestocktonarchive.com/2015/09/14/bill... - now some sort of heavily re-faced offices.

I would love to add equivalent Streetview images but I cannot work my phone well enough...

I’d guess the picture was taken some time in the fifties. The listing of buildings of special architectural or historical interest was established under the Town and Country Planning Acts of 1944 and 1947, and there wasn’t much of an appetite for listing buildings from the thirties when these measures were introduced.
Even over the course of this thread sites we've featured have gone. In search of better photos for the book, often the simplest way for Rich or me to see if a place was still standing was to drive there and look. It was quite an eye opener to see how many have been redeveloped, even some quite attractive buildings have just disappeared.

It was a pleasure! And thanks to you as I've sent off for a copy of the picture with the truck and the two blokes leaning.
