Definitely not a KA. I believe you can actually swap a lot of Puma and Fiesta MK4 parts very easily, I've even seen a Fiesta MK4 with a Puma front on it.
http://media.photobucket.com/image/fiesta%20with%20puma%20front%20end/DradusContact/Other%20Cars/Puma_Front_On_Fiesta.jpgI'm considering buying a Puma next year, I'm probably going to VT my current car and get in on this 'shed' lark.
Bought one for £900 (admitedly my brothers previously so knew the whole history!) for my other half and it's a fantastic car.
The steering, throttle response and body control are that of a new car as its the condition of the overall car and yet it's done 100k.
Also has the best gear change of any car i've ever driven. Very short throw with a small metal gear knob. Superb.

Nothing more than a fiesta in a fancy frock....
It's a Ka underneath not a Fiesta. They even have the same dashboard, seats etc.B'stard Child said:

There that should stop that one being banded out in the rest of the thread.
Although it appears my aim has been somewhat spoiled by both your posted response to my comment and the number of replies quoting both.....There that should stop that one being banded out in the rest of the thread.
Still never mind
PS I think you are wrong as well

And anyway, isn't a Ka just a Mk4 fiesta with a different body and dash? In which case you're all correct!

Differnt body - so that's a the shell right and a different dash that's not the same as a Mk4 Fiesta...... Tell me how that works Riggers said:

On the other hand, VW Bolfs looks pretty good.
When I passed my test I shared a Mk5 Fiesta "Black" (special edition with the leather seats) with my mum and although it was a 1.25 I remember it being great to drive. Learned to drive in a Ka too which was slow as the moon but still good fun. Never driven a Puma but can imagine it would be good even in basic spec since it shares the floorpan with the Mk5. Personally I'd love a shot of a racing Puma.
On the flip side I had the latest Fiesta as a courtesy car which all the car mags rave about. I was expecting it to be fantastic but it was awful, wallowed around like a huge boat, no feedback from the steering wheel and awful brakes

All Pistonheader's cars are 'temporary'
Temporary until I find a decent Forester. Although I don't know if I could let the Puma go. Its got..
Soul?
I'd be more than happy to help you out though find one. Email me any across that you like the look of and I'd help out. I'd even ring the seller of one for you and ask a few questions. Pity you aren't more local to me as I'd let you drive mine to get a gauge on what to expect and if you drove one 'better' you'd know a benchmark (or worse)
I loved my old Forester as it used to grab onto a roundabout or bend and sling you round like it was being pulled by a tractor-beam. It also had character.

I use to have a puma, now a 1999 audi s3..... And i actually miss the puma, yes the s3 is a serious amount quicker. I never got bored of driving the puma, and im yet to find a car with such a great gearshift!
Mrs S got a new Puma when they first came out in 1997. A second one followed in 2001 which she kept until 2005. Her average milage over this period was over 20k per annum and her only gripe was that the fuel tank was too small. A new Puma wasn't an option in 2005 so, she opted for an A3 2.0tdi, which she very quickly decided to hate, but kept until 2009 when she stopped commuting. Now needing a car for only SD&PP she told me to find her the best Puma I could. It took a bit of finding, but I eventually found a rust free one owner car with 46k FSH and documentation for recent suspension bush replacement. The dealer put a new cambelt kit on as part of the deal and 20 months later she's still very happy and loves her Puma. The only downside is that the dreaded rust has started to appear on the rear arches.
I still enjoy driving the Puma occasionally. It's great for chasing along country roads, and has others have already said, handles superbly and is heaps of fun.
I don't know if this link has been posted, but make no apology for posting it again. It's the Top Gear Car of the year video for 1997

I think your post speaks volumes for how good these cars are
I'm really keen to get back in a Ford....my last one was a 98 KA, and that was a lot of fun apart from the awful old Endura E lump (perhaps mine was a lemon but I had a brand new engine fitted under warranty within a month of buying it then a further 2 major Mechanical failures in just over 1 year)
can't view the video from work so will have a look at home later on
I have owned mine for just over 4-years and it has been the best car I have owned. It brings a smile to my face every time I drive it and costs relatively little to run. It has needed a few things replacing over the years but it is a 10-year old car so to be expected.
Sadly mine will be going soon as it’s just too small for us with a newborn on the way. It will be missed for sure and I hope to own another in the future if they haven’t all rusted away.
