Any other car and thats finished.
If that were a 959 with the engine rear suspension and transmission ripped out of it, it would be over for it.
They do however make most of the F1 out of shredded wheat.
McLaren will of course repair it, but the normal rules, if the repair costs more than 50% of the value of the car its a write off, won't apply.
The parts bins big enough at Woking to probably build a few more anyway.

Christ that 2nd picture looks bad, wish RA a speedy recovery and I hope they can rebuild the car. I wonder if he'll have a MP4-12C on order shortly though!

RA isn't the type to take a interview in Heat magazine!
And all the better for it IMO. - Most of the wasters that appear in those rags need a bullet to the back of the head.

Back on topic though: Hopefully the car is repairable - it would be a massive shame if it were a write-off, but more importantly, from the sound of it the pilot seems to have been lucky.

As for the accident itself: I think we should refrain from commenting on possible causes, as we clearly have absolutely no idea of the circumstances.

I have a mate on traffic in Northants Police who just texted me that Mr Atkinson is currently being interviewed under suspiscion of dangerous driving, apparently he has requested a lawyer to be present and has only spoken once since arriving, he looks slightly dishevelled and is not entirely with it.

The one word was "Wibble" biggrin

A mate who'll have no job if he gets found out that he's sending out details to the world!

Why would Northants be talking to him when it happened in Cambridgeshire?

That road is notorious where the 2 lane parts go back to 1 at the brow of the hills, with people trying to take 'one more car' causing much mayhem when they don't have the power to match ambition...for all we know it may be that Rowan was trying to avoid such a Passat Diseasel

Looking at the signs the ones on the hill closest to haddon are all double legged. The ones on the hill slightly closer to Elton are single legged and in Northants....I think smile

I took it as a joke, not reality (?)

Well, that looks really bad. Truely a write off. (not)

How about you stick to thinking the Moon landings are false and that Kerry Katona is a pie eating alien and leave us grown ups to wish Mr. Atkinson and his car a full recovery.

You cocksocket.
It's like a scene from a horror film where the protagonist finds his friend and he appears fine, until he tries to move and find his legs are missing
How come the front looks fine in one, then missing in the other?

I'm know the A605 well (unfortunately).

Looking at the double white lines in the mirror of the car of the person taking the pic, it looks like the stretch of road between the Warmington turn-off and the Elton turn-off.

Glad he's ok though and that nobody else was involved, otherwise they might have thrown the book at him.

Because the bit that's missing is the back.

From the first post,

"It's currently on Twitter that a Mclaren F1 has been involved in a big accident on the A605 in Northants. Apparently Rowan Atkinson lives nearby so lots of speculation that it is his."

Glad Rowan got out of that more or less okay, but I think as dedicated petrolheads, we now have to all go and watch his new film when it comes out to ensure he has enough reddies for what will no doubt be a big repair bill...

I wonder what his insurance excess is like? scratchchin

Looks like the road was wet. Accidents don't just happen. they are caused. There will be some contributing factors, tyres, road conditions and of course the driver. He seems to be a good enought driver but everyone has limits. The car will be repaired, I would buy it damaged, and there will probably be very little wrong with him other than a stiff neck and bruised ego.
Good luck to Rowan in the future, he's done very well in life and deserves the nice things.
Get well soon and stay on it.

Strange to think that a different turn of the wheel, or the crash a bit further up the road etc etc, could have meant us waking up to news that one of the greatest comedy actors ever had been killed instead of sustaining a relatively minor injury.

He seems pretty handy as a driver, probably would have been fighting with the wheel tooth and nail until impact

glad to hear RA is ok

on an insurance - 'will they won't they' pay for repairs
well, if the insurance company were to pay out, they would be expected to (I know it doesn't actually work like this) put him back in the same position pre-accident...

the last F1 sold at auction was chassis no. 065
estimate - £1.1m - £1.4m
Auciton Result - £2.53m

on that basis, I'm pretty sure they'll repair it

There must have been a better way to remove the car than with a crane..could they not have tried to tow it out and slide it onto some sort or low load trailer...looks like it just made the damage worse.
