2 Well done to 0000 for joining the PH ranks and using one of the dumbest comments on this forum and making yourself look an idiot.
Checking my profile to make your comeback. Pathetic.
It's not my fault no one likes your car, I just asked the question.

Seems perfectly reasonable to find out what someone likes the look of while they're slating such a popular car for its looks, but by all means, have a tantrum. smile

Not a tantrum just fed up with every thread having some pillock referencing the users cars in their profile as some sort of argument.

"Oh yeah like you would know anything about building you drive a corsa" type stupid comments.

You also manage to reference only 1 of my cars which says nothing about my taste in cars. I have over the years had many cars some bland others not so bland most of them listed in my profile. My present serves a purpose nothing more nothing less.

In order to be ugly, a thing needs not to be entirely bland.
Oh I dunno; BMW had a damned good go at achieving both with the E90. hehe

Oh, I don't know. I quite like the M Coupe and Fiat Coupe, both of which many people found ugly at the time. If they'd been bland and inoffensive their styling would be forgotten by now.

I chose 250bhp N/A.

I don't think a turbo / SC would fit with what this car is about.
I went with this option. A resonably powerful N/A engine in a fairly light RWD coupe.

"so that young people can buy second hand and customise them to their own tastes" = coming to Macdonald's soon

"Toyota plans to release an upgraded version of the GT86 every year", well most cars get a yearly facelift, so I suppose this is normal.

why dont all the people that want instant mega power in any gear, with the ability to do hundreds of mph at will; go out and buy a litre superbike.

where they can have unlimited power, and overtake everyone and everything.. endlessly

Because they don't like bikes as much as cars?

wink

thats fine..

but i still dont understand why they dont just run off and buy a faster car instead of sitting around whining.. continually!

Greedy, Apexi and TRD will have SC and Turbo conversion kits out for around £5k soon, if they're not already out.

pick a horsepower level you want and bolt it on if you really MUST have this car that you find underpowered ffs

personally, id want some ITB's on it and a custom manifold to get that boxer warble ... warbling! lol smile

250bhp and n/a, for everyone that says it's fast enough, is it really? Another 50bhp and a bit more torque would be nice.

Hell, let Honda drop a K20 in it. biggrin

Both those Honda units fail emissions compliance in Europe. I suppose you might be able to get the Toyota remapped to put a dip in the torque curve around 6000rpm, though. wink

Toyota should have based it on the Auris front wheel drive platform and put a 250bhp turbodiesel in it. And then spent all the development budget making the interior look like an Audi. Proper PH car.

I'm very surprised that on a site that sings the praises of the MX-5, the GT86 has been received to so many calls that it's underpowered.

A mark I MX5 1.6 has approximately 120bhp/tonne, the mark II 1.8 has just under 140bhp/tonne but the point of these cars was to be fun to drive rather than set outright speed records. The GT86 appears to have been designed in the same vein and has just under 160bhp/tonne. Do all those who think the GT86 is underpowered think the MX5 is underpowered, and more importantly, a less enjoyable car because of it?

But I suspect the real problem the GT86 has can be summed up here;

1) Make the styling not look like a Hyundai from about 10 years ago

2) Give it 250 or more hp

3) Lower the price by a few k across the board

Would be a start, but even then I'd sooner go for a used Cayman, Exige, or 911.
If it looked 'better', had more power and was cheaper, people still won't buy it! The GT86 suffers from a numbers problem, it seems to be a car that makes more sense when sat behind the wheel than when looking at a piece of paper.

Speaking of 10 year old Hyundais, how many time have we seen the 2.0 I4 Coupe recommended over the 2.5 V6?

Yep, the Mx5 needs a SC to make it a proper sports car as opposed to a fun thing to chuck around.

180-200bhp per tonne is the absolute sweet spot for a lightweight road car.

Wouldn't be bad by any means lol, but far more tuning options for the K20 out there.
