Too many Pauls. I'm getting confused.

I really don't understand some people's take on this. It's a car website. If we were all posting on the Greenpeace forums then fair enough.

It's seeing cars like this that sparks my interest and keeps me coming back here. I mean that from well preserved examples to nut and bolt restorations to everyday drivers. There's a place for all three.

RS500 Registrar said:
Sadly this has upset some folk who know they will now never afford to buy one and so feel now its only fair to mock those who can.

I have been the RS500 registrar for near 6 years now and have seen the values rocket and have told people this would happen years ago , now those who didnt listern have now missed the boat.
Sad indeed that the cars wont be owned and driven as intended by the average working enthusiast, and have moved into investment territory. Personally I always thought the Escos was a nicer car, perhaps they're next for the speculators.

If I were wealthy I would certainly pay the asking price for that particular car no question especially been no 499. It too would be used but kept in that condition indefinatly. Although would of prefered it in black...

This is a complete fallacy, I have met many many owners now, both recent and long termers, they are all working guys who have bought them to use and enjoy which they all do on a regular basis.

Even the fellas with the bigger collections of 4 plus examples are hard working gents who have built up successful companies, and have now realised their ambition of owning at least one of each colour made.

They are still very much a working mans car, and always will be.

this thread is getting funny now! Some serious lame brains making laughable comments. Let me tell you a true story. Back in 1992 my mate worked an an industrial etate, across the road from him was a rather successfull printing company. The MD would drive in once a week in his Ferrari F40. Yes F40! Every other day he would be in his 7 series BMW and in his own words "when I feel like having some fun I bring in the cosworth"..

He had a brand new Escort RS Cosworth in Red.

I think that will rest the case. Those who come out with halfords comments, please!! I think you might find the hundred year old smokey turds of MR2 or Subaru/Civic crap is what you see pulling in to halfords!

I have had 2 cosworths a Saf and 4x4 converted 3 door, all I can say was my experience was most people loved them, even the old bill stopped me a few times just to have a look, didnt even ask my details, just wanted to see the car!

You think an average working guy earning £25k a year with a mortgage and 2.4 kids can afford £65k for your car ?.

Well I managed to own it, and fit that description. I have only had it a few years and every penny that went towards it was earned by hard graft, not one penny was a gift or handout.

and no is the correct answer he could not afford to just go out and buy "any" £65K car regardless of what it is, but he could afford to buy a nice usable 3dr cosworth, or a higher mileage well enjoyed RS500 and work his way up to a mintier one over time, just like most of the current owners have.

I disagree, and I suspect a few years ago you gave less than half of £65k for yours. Enjoy or sell, trying to justify it on here is pointless.

£65K for a Jelly mould with a plank on the back yikes

Sorry fella, just kidding biggrin Not my cup of tea one bit, but the Ford guys have a tendency to like these sort of cars. At the moment the current climate is not exactly ideal for selling Classic? cars. If the seller is prepared to wait another couple of years, who knows? There's a fine line between buying a car as an investment, the more you use it and the mileage goes up the chances are price goes down, you are also dependent on the market and the economy.
Never really seen the attraction in these sort of cars, same thing with the Lotus Carlton? Why people seem to rave about them is beyond me!

Whats pointless is responding on here to people with closed minds.

Thats the car, thats the price I want for it if someone would like to own it.

Its now in storage until next spring so is eating and costing nothing, so I am more than happy for it to stay that way fo the forseable future.

If anyone has any genuine enquiires drop me a pm and I am happy to answer any questions.

Hopefully this thread dies a natural death like they all seem to do, and the internet warriors can move on to wasting their time about the next issue that has no effect on their lives, but seems to eat them up inside for some reason.

Oh Rs500 Cosseh ! I drooled over the Cossie Sierra as a newly qualified driver back when these were released. A neighbour had one, which he later upgraded to an RS500. I was so jealous smile Had to make do with my MkIII Tina......
I wouldn't mind getting hold of a decent one of those. Looks like prices are heading upwards there also.

Hang on, PistonHeads is an Internet Magazine, And Your car has been the subject of topic (on the front page), we all like different things and sometimes other peoples views may make you reflect on your own thoughts wink

To be fair the Brits are never exactly constructive, I remember when my own car came up as topic for the day, the first comment was "Slow news day is it" rolleyes
Anyway, look on the good side, you have got your car featured on the front page of an Internet magazine and you have had feedback from members thumbup Good luck with your sale smile

Don't take it personally chap, to each his own and all that.

I love it personally, I don't £65k love it, but I hope you find someone that does. In the mean time feel free to drown the naysayers in a ton of pictures of your P&J, preferably in wallpaper sizes hehe

You either get them, or you dont.

Everyone comparing the E30 M3 Evo 11 to this, can you guys remind me which one got smashed off the race track? What car was totally dominated?

They had to change the rules to stop the RS500 winning! That is how good this car was!

Yes, it is a Sierra, old one at that. But then the E30 M3 is just a 3 series... that is old too, so is the Lancia Delta, Rs200

You should be comparing the RS500 with the Stratos. How much do genuine ones of them sell for these days? I bet its up around this money, if not more.

Pistonheads is a great site and lots of great members, but the bulk of people with throw away comments on this thread is commical.

This car is a piece of history and until someone pulls number 500 out, this is going to be the one to have. So instead of putting up comments like "its only a sierra" etc why dont you respect the car, for what it is! This was back in the day when touring car was king!

I for one can't believe that a car as iconic as this gets any stick on an enthusiasts forum. rolleyes
I think it's fair to say that the majority of contributors to this thread (myself included) given unlimited funds would actually buy your car.

I hope you sell it mate. If not, cherish it for the years to come, as most of us would love the chance to do.
